Camping Trip Must Have...

Big 3 Tow Test...Cool Video!!

I just got back from my first trip towing with the new truck. I had a couple of instances where I was waiting at a stop sign, on an incline in 1st gear. As I released the clutch (probably a little too fast), the truck lunged slightly, tugging on the fiver. This resulted in a violant jerking back and forth between the truck and trailer that would only stop if I put the clutch back in, stopped and started again slipping it in second.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had the same experience. The clutch engages fairly abruptly and close to the floor. I assume this contributes to the problem. I towed with my '97 CTD 5 speed for 9 years without this ever happening.

Thanks for your ideas.

Same thing has happened to me. I had the problem with my 96 and now with my 04 when towing heavy.

B. G. has the right idea. Starting out at an idle seems to work. I think we are getting into axle wrap. I wish someone made a set of traction bars for the 2 wheel drive trucks. I think that would stop our problem.

BG is right... . we teach truck drivers to start the truck without the use of the throttle... . once the truck picks up the load while it idles... you add throttle...

I also posted a note about seal damage under engine and drive train... were I talked about this shudder and the chase to repair the shudder and the seal failure... . please take a minute and look at that post... . it sure solved our problem...
