OK folks:
When towing this weeking in North Georgia every time I got to a point where I had to give about half throttle to climb, the truck started to buck and it would get so bad I had to clutch the engine or I would broken something. It would do this in third and fourth. If I dropped into 2nd and ran about 2400 RPM it would pull without any problem.
Now when I run empty I have a slight "quiver" to the engine I cannot seem to find. The pump has been set-up by a Bosch mech. and he says it is fine. The only up-grade to the motor is 300 injectors. Could this cause the trouble? I have been told the govorner need a rebuild. Is this the trouble? I didn't have this problem till I broke the throttle rod. I replaced it and this started. . The only adjustment I see is the 5 inches from the ball joint and the frame bracket. Is there another adj. I don't see? The hopping feels like the petal is being pushed in and let go very quickly.
I can't tow like this but I don't know what to do.
Does anyone have any idea what is up with this pump?

I have read about bucking problem in the TDR and on this site. AS I recall it has something to do with throttle linkage, the return spring comes to mind.
Only other thing I think could cause it would be trans.
My Freightliner will buck at low speed/low gear especially on tight turn. It has electronic accelerator pedal.

I will check the TDR publications for bucking problem.

Found three references to bucking.
All spring related.
Issue 18 page 22.
Issue 19 page 16.
Issue 20 page 26.
The latter two refer to TSB 18-29-97A.
The outline for this TSB is in issue 22 page 53 under vehicle performance catergory 18.
If you don't have issue 22 I will e-mail you the outline. The TSB specifies 96 thru 98 with Cummins and 5 spd trans.
 
Right after I put the 300 nozzles in, (now 370s), my truck exhibited a buck that would get progressively worse if I kept cruising at a set speed. I replaced the spring with the updated kit (complain to a 5 star dealer enough and the 200. 00 kit will be given to you as a voluntary recall at no charge) and the problem went away.
