Off Roading Tires/ Lift

OK - I have a non protected hella light in my buckstop bumper and of course it is now broke (rock)... Who make a protected light - I mean one that will take a hit????

Is there enough room between the front of the light and the inside of the bumper to fit a thin sheet of plexi-glass? If so, it would keep rocks, mud, snow and salt off the lights for longer life. Just an idea. Mike

I got some from Pep Boys for my Buckstop. Don't recall the brand off hand but they have a chromed wire mesh across the front.

Sorry to here about your light troubles, just hope the lights you had were not too expensive. Protection is an issue with anything mounted to the front of a vehical, truck or car. The biggest issue nowdays is not the lights, it's the radiator and condenser. More offten then not, these are made of light aluminum or plastic and a rock of almost any size can do significant damage. My mother lost a condinser on her 2 week old Honda oddisy from a rock. It seems most vehicals now days are vanerable, the bottom section of the grill is wide open and the expensive but rather fagile commponents are all at risk to exposure damage.

It would be wise to invest in some aluminum or stell mesh matterial and fashion some type of guard or sheild. Your light however are another story, they need to function and assthitics come into play. No need having such a great new bumper and then trashing it up with un-shightly guards. I to have the Buckstop bumper, I like it's looks and funtionality. To say it is solid and well built would be an understatement, It is a definit improvement in front end protection. The recessed light pockets are made to accomidate most 6" lights. I use the Piaa 525's, they are a dual level accessory light, meaning they can be switched from a fog light to a driving light. They also come with a back-litt led light that comes on with the marker lights and serves to give a glowing appearance, diffently a eye-cather. The best part about them is that they come with a guard in place, granted it is a wide spaced guard, but it serves it's purpose. I have also seen some KC lights that have a chrome wire guard in front of them, this would work nicely also. I do not know what price tag you are willing to afix to the front lights, they can go from 10-15 bucks for the local dollar store veriety to 3-400 for the piaa's and lightfource type lights. You do get what you pay for, and the better lights are build to take more severe duty then the cheaper ones. In fact, most of the better lights have seen sigificant duty in some of the harshest of off-road places, many serving duty on SCORE, CORE and a host of other off-road series.

I included a picture of the 525's on my Buckstop, and a picture of the LED turing signal lamps I installed, they really stand out and make others aware of your desire to change lanes, or directions. They are extremely tough, and have not giving me an troubles since they were installed. Good luck with your light delima.

Y-Knot nice to see you post again, havent seen you in a while. Where did you get your LED turn signals? Do you still have the part #'s? Thanks

Thanks guys --

I'll look at the PIAA's again - I am not to happy with the guards as they do somewhat restrict the light - doesn't somebody make a lexan cover for the lights?????

I suggested this to the Buckstop rep at one of our dyno days. There is or was enough room to sandwich a piece of plexi in there. For the price of a shhet, you could replace when it get's scarred up. The downside id the ability to clean the backside of the "lens".

I believe hella makes a line of lights, maybe what you are looking for, with a clear, snap on rock guard which is just a clear cover. If you cant find these let me know, my friend has a set and I can get the details from him if needed.
