Someone was kind enough to rearrange my grille guard and bumper on my truck so I'm looking into the idea of a buckstop, but I have a couple of questions. First does anyone have pictures of a non-winch buckstop on there truck, I would like to see how one of these looks. Next how do you like your buckstop if you have one. Right now I have a chrome grille guard and stock bumper, I'm wondering how I'm going to like the looks of a big painted bumper over my chrome now. It is a black truck, I was thinking of a dark gray buckstop, any suggestions??

And last is there any group buys of buckstop's in the works??

I like mine. Some have had issues with the paint flaking and some minor rust in those area's but mine has kept well. I have a sport so I had it painted to match. I try to keep the bugs off to keep from wearing the paint but I drive over 100 miles round trip to work everyday so I catch a bunch of them.

I got it incase I happen upon an Oryx going to work some day, hopefully it will hold up well but an Oryx is pretty big. I would definately be better off than with the stocker. Sorry mine has a winch.

I bought the winch bumper because I figured it was stronger than the non-winch bumper and offered more versitility. I have a few piant nicks but it's not bad. I travel a lot of off-pavement roads. There's no question that a Buckstop or similar bumper is light years ahead in protection of the front end over a "bull bar". My buddy that put one on at the same time already hit a deer. Just hosed the bumper off. I haven't hit any deer yet. They're too fast for me :)

Buckstop bumpers are really nice bumbers, but check out my readers rigs and check out my Lonestar Bumper. I'm not a rich guy, so couldn't afford a buckstop; but I found this for $700 "picked it up myself, so shipping not included' I think the shipping was going to be $150. 00, still way cheaper than a buckstop and I've had nothing but complements on this bumper, it's heavy, heavy duty and worth every cent... www.lonestartruckequipment.com ask for Craig.

Woohoo i let you know in a week when she goes on. I got the baja grilleguar though, all black. I figure someday if I think its too much black, I will get the grillguard chromed. :D Oo.

I really like the look and design of the Buckstop, probably more then any other bumper out there. I went with the Denver Off-Road because of weight and IMHO the people at Buckstop pull up WAY short when it comes to finish work/detail. They have these awesome light buckets cut into the bumper, then they don't even weld the bucket all the way around you only get spot welds, that way in less then a year you will have rust all around the buckets as well as just being tacky-looking. And there paint or powder-coat whatever it is, is very thin to say the least.

The responses are great guys thanks.

I looked at the DOR bumpers too and I like the fact that they are aluminum. But since I will never have a winch on this truck, I really like how the buckstop non-winches suck in close to the bumper. I think they are the least proturding heavy duty bumper, I could be wrong though. The fact that the bumper doesn't stick out so much helps smooth it over with the gf, since she thinks a big non-chrome bumper is going to look horrible on my truck. I think she will like it once I get it though, we will see.

The lonestar bumper is nice too but just not quite the look I want, thanks for the suggestion though.

I think I'm going to get on of the buckstop non-winch with the grille guard, I believe it is the baja one.

The only other questions I have, unless some has a picture of this bumper I would like to see it, is how bad is the chipping of the powder coat?? I was under the impression that powder coating are not supposed to chip if done right? Should I order it raw and have it powder coated here, would that help? I believe they take 125 off if you order it raw, I doubt that would cover powdercoating it separately??? Or is it some thing that will look good for 5 years or so and then I could have it recoated? Would you guys suggest the receiver hitch or not, do you use yours a lot??

Lastly I like the idea of chroming the baja bar down the road. How much would something that size cost to chrome any ideas??

Sorry for such a long post, I'm just trying to get the right bumper the first time since they are 1500 bucks.

Thanks for all the response they are much appreciated, and keep them coming.

First, the DOR does not stick out any further than a buckstop and a little bit less than a Ruenel!

Next, I dissagree with spending any money on a **** poor job when you know it is from the start!

Last, both bumpers ( DOR and Buckstop ) are available with a reciever front in place of winch mount, or you just place your front license plate over winch mounting hole.

I find that the paint holds up well on the Buck Stop. After a year and 18K miles I have no rust or missing paint. Michigan winters include much salt/sand on the highways and is a true test for paint finishes. Remember to order new fogs as the OEM oval fogs will not fit the cans provided in the Buck Stop.

2 years on my Buckstop, no rust & the powdercoating is holding up great. Ever after running down a wood barrier the coating didn't break away.

I love my Buckstop. Now if I could only get someone to tag me in the rear bumper I could buy the matching rear one.

I really like mine, too. Had it on for over 1 1/2 years, and it's still holding up fine. No rock chips, just a little surface rust inside the front receiver hitch. When I bought it, they had just changed their powdercoating process on the silver, because the silver wasn't holding up very good. Looks to me like whatever they did, worked. The front and rear are both pretty impressive. Pics are in my gallery.

Sounds like the bumper are holding up good. If it is working in michigan (JVantreese) it should work for me in wisconsin, since we use a ton of salt too. Which I despise with passion but that for another post.

Rams-n-Hogs _ Is that the dark silver or the light silver?? It is sharp looking on your truck.

Now I just need to decide between the Black or Dark Gray on my black truck. So many decisions

Do you guys use your reciever hitches a lot and if so what for???

The Buckstop bumper is definately a heavy duty bumper. No comparison to stock bumper. It does protrude quite a bit from stock though. There are pics of the non winch bumper on their site, however my bumper was made a little different than the pics. I ordered a non winch bumper with a front receiver and no grill guard. The bumper came with holes in it for a grill guard (ugly), the front receiver was not welded in as shown in their pics, rather it is a bolt on receiver. After I complained about the holes that should not have been on the top of my bumper, I was told that for an additional price they would have made it without them. Although omitting holes should not cost more $$ than what they are already charging, I would have paid more had I known. They did send me plugs to cover the holes. Mine has been on for about a year and anywhere something has rubbed on it, the powder coat is flaking off. The inner fender wells rub the bumper, I had the block heater wire in the light bucket for the winter and both of those places have the powder coat flaking off. If I did it over again, I would have it painted elsewhere to match the truck with a high quality tough paint. (maybe epoxy)

One other issue that I had was they do not provide any place to attach the original bumper end support bars on the non winch bumper. If your horn is attached to that as mine was, you'll need to relocate the horn.

It is a nice bumper and I get lots of compliments on how heavy duty it is, almost everyone asks what the holes are for. Guess that won't be a problem for you if you get the grill guard. I hope you are a very patient person. Good Luck.

OK its on and sorry no pics yet. This bumper is awesome. It wasnt necessarily complicated to put on either. I helped out in the garage at my 4x shop where I had bought it through. The bumper came very well packaged. Not sure if that was from the truck or if it got wet at the shop. The welds were all good and everything bolted up nicely. The baja grilleguard is sweet too. The four contours for the lights are nicely done. Just a shallow dip so smooth you would swear its bent that way but underneath its welded. The front hitch is also welded in really well. If i get a DSS ill have two perfect mounting places for a tough skidplate to protect the rad and condensor

Only 3 small hiccups. The 4" light holes i ordered extra, they sent my two drivers side mounts so we had to cut the piece to allow it to work flipped on the other side. Luckily the PIAAS can reverse from bottom mount to top mount. Secondly, I like how it bolted up easy but it used the two flat square mounting points the stock bumper did. They add beef by using a bracket that mounts the tow hooks to the bumper and back to the frame. I would like to add a couple of gussets to the stock points back to the frame horns to really strengthen it (its solid but not as strong as it could be). Actually to strengthen it like I imagine, you may run into more serious risks like frame damage, undue stress, etc. Third i knocked some powdercoat off on one of the edges. very small and i painted it quick an easy. The powdercoat seems good and better than I expected. I think as long as you can keep an eye on the edges where powdercoat is most vulnerable you ll enjoy a rust free bumper for years. I figure if its bad in a year or two then fine ill go line x the bottom bumper and chrome the guard. I really think the guard chromed would set the bumper off even more.

Anyways ill get some pics up in the next day or two. Not sure if i still have an account to upload too so maybe someone else wouldnt mind hosting them so i dont have to go mess with that.

Oh and id give the bumper an 8 out of 10. very nice. :-laf

Thanks! I have to get her cleaned up and take a pic in good sunlight with a real camera. :) Already got some new parts to put on as it never stops! :D
