A friend of mine has a Lance (I think) slidein camper that has a slideout and the whole setup weighs like 4000lbs in its "ready to go" state.

Currently he has a '95 SuperDuty SRW that is having issues dealing with the weight. He put on the best tires he could find, airbags, etc. and it still sags in the rear, rides rough and isn't as stable as he'd like.

So now he's thinking about ditching it in favor of a '95-'97 Dodge Cummins dually. But before I tell him to run out and buy one I want to make sure he's not going to have weight and spring issues he won't be able to resolve, at least without having to spend a lot of money. What do you guys think and how heavy are your slideins?

He wants to get an Auto transmission and I suggested the 4. 10 gears since he may tow a boat part of the time and isn't planning on using the truck light very often.

Thanks for your input.

I have 2004 Arctic Fox 1140, 5600lbs as we weighed it all four corners on an Oregon scale. '97 Dodge 3500,TST plate, ATS full transmission done at ATS. Picked up Camper at Dealer in Mfg's town 9/12/2003. Truck has air bags, run 100# 0n slide side and 80# on other side, list may be due to weak right side springs, will have them checked this summer. Get about 13 MPG loaded, down west coast and across to Texas, current location. Truck handles it fine, pitches if crossind a dip too fast, other wise ok. Brakes only OK, would like more brake with this load. Have4:10, good selection, Have 169K miles on truck. Some wind pushing camper moving at 55MPY hitting 40 - 60 mph head and cross winds. E-mail if further info wanted
