A trick suggested in the Harley Davidson owners manual for removing bugs from windscreens & paint: Lay water soaked terry cloth towels over the surface, let sit for about 15 min, the BUGS wipe right off. It works & It's Cheap. FYI.

As to keeping the critters out of your radiator... .

I hit a home depot in the midwest last summer whilst driving to Glacier Nat. Pk. from Vermont. I bought a roll of the black fiberglass screen (i. e. door/window replacement) and just spread it across the radiator (under the hood), and hooked it to the rubber posts that support the closed hood.

Worked great and the darn bugs just shake off the screen!!

I Have found that Simple Green Cleaner works real well on the bugs also, and it is a bio-degradeable cleaner to keep the enviro-wacko's off your back.

Found the best bug remover by far. SPLATT by Barsleaks (barsleaks.com) really works great. We tried WD40 side by side with SPLATT and there was no comparrison. Also WD40 discolored the paint on a camper.

Someone suggested using PAM before a trip to keep the bugs from sticking. I am going to try that next time out.

Cullyguy,

Thanks for the tip on bugs.

This is the first post that I have seen from you and your signature. (Don't ask where I've been) We'll have to get together some time.

Try fabric softener sheets (like the ones you use in the dryer). I use Bounce. Just wet the front and rub the sheet around to lather it up. Whatever is in there softens the bugs and you can use it to wipe at the same time. Works for me and it seems to be OK for the paint; I’ve used them for a couple of years.

JSChooley - I too tried the PAM spray before heading out and it was a huge mistake. I spent more time getting the PAM off than I would have just getting the bugs off without using anything at all!

The window screen is what I use on my radiator down here below I-10 and the Luv Bug season is starting. I also use RAIN-X on my wind sheild regularly and the bugs come off with little effort at the spray wash.

Pam,,Gang we are not trying to cook our beloved Rams here now are we??,,There are many quality items out there to help the bug prevention and removal,,The wet towel is a great deal and cost efficent, though time consuming at times,,Bars Leaks,Simple Green,409 and a host of others will work to simplify things and speed the process up in removal,,Easiest way I've found to remove them is a little preparation before your trip,,For the gang in the Pre-99 trucks(old bumper and lower facia)after cleaning use some tire foam on the facia and lower spoiler,,Apply a quality wax on the bumper, leading edge of the roof and grill area then top it off with a Mother's product called "Showtime",,On the 99 and later trucks I detail I do all the front bumper and grill area along with the leading edge of the roof the same way,wax and showtime,,The windshield gets a nice coat of Rain-X,,These tricks I also use on my MUCH larger Cummins truck I drive at work all over our great country, they do work(got enough West texas plains bugs to prove it),Bugs are a pain in more ways than one...
