Bug screen...

Just did a trip home and noticed that the window is covered with bug juice. At the fill-up, I checked the oil and sure enough, quite a few bugs have gotten smashed into the air conditioner radiator. So my question is, what have others done to prevent bugs getting in all the way?

Bug screen

I tried the traditional bug screen across the front and the wind whips the edges and damages the truck paint. I rolled up the ends of the screen and have it behind the grill just covering the coolers/radiator/condenser. I just rub it off once in a while. Has been in there about a year. bg

I used the fiberglass screen material from the local hardware store, cut it to fit and just zip tied it on the top corners. Has worked great for 25k. With the fiberglass screen the bugs just wash right off. And isn't nearly as bad on the hands when digging around in there for whatever reason.

I bought a complete set from a company in Minnesota. They're outside covers that velcro on the plastic chrome grill. There is also a lower set (bumper opening). It other gentlemen are right it's cheaper and if I had it all to do over I'd most likely buy the screen material. Anyway, the address is (if you're interested)

I used window screen mesh with 1/16" X1/16" place behind the grille which works great as not even a pesty little musquitoos get throught there (okay maybe a few). The only problem is I have to wash it quit often so it doesn't get too plugged up.

That's pretty much what I was planning to do... guess I could have done it tonight, but didn't think about it. Trying to get some more room in the garage tonight and bought some hangers, but ran out of time tonight to get them in and working... guess that will continue tomorrow unless it drys out so I can power rake the backyard... it is that time of the year again... yuck.

I purchased a front end "bra" from an online place... LeBra I believe..... It looks great, protects the front end, keeps bugs out, and doesn't move in the wind... .

Dim bugs(grasshoppers will be next) are gonna be bad this yr down here in Central Texas. Thats what I put(wire) in front of my condenser several yrs ago. I think some guys put the wire behind there grill tie wrap it on. Thought about that but haven't done it yet.

It fastens to snaps that stick on the grill. I like one on the front so I can do a quick wipe off of the bugs.

Ditto for me on the hardware style. Works fine with a few tie wraps. cheap to.

I went to the hardware store and bought the plastic window screen that you put together your self. put it behind the grill. works real good. Just take it out to wash.

My cheap solution...

Well, after giving the truck it's first bath yesterday, I installed a fiberglass window screen by zip tie it to the top of the frame. Not the fancy job, just enough to get it in there. I left the bottom hang free and hope that it doesn't move. I doubt it will. Also, with it hanging free, I think I can easily pull it out and wipe brush off all the bug corpses. Time will only tell...
