Bug splats in paint

I drove through central Florida on the turnpike, and was hammered by bugs. It sounded like riding behind a dump truck full of gravel. I now know why people put bug screens on the front of their vehicles. The bugs have since been washed off, but the residue remains. Outside of the obvious bug/tar remover commercially available, is there any secret potion that will effective remove it and keep the clear coat intact? These bugs weren't your normal mess on the front of the vehicle, these were bionic super-bugs that are filled with Liquid Nails

Someone posted about this a while back and I believe they suggested using a terry type towel soaked with water, lay it over flat on the affected area for some time(sorry don't remember how long) and the bugs will come off with the towel. Worth a try anyway.

I had the same problems on my truck. Washed and washed. What actualy took it off was rain!! Did a better job than anything else lol. A friend of mine ran into the same thing with a black 2001 sport model. The front end was almost white with bug stuff. On the trip home it rained and it was spottless after that.

My brother made a round trip to Florida and came back with a coating of animals that defied removal short of a good rasp.



He tried a number of methods, even rubbed a little paint off the front of his camper in the process.



I brought over a bottle of BarsLeaks SPLATT! I got at a trade show to see what it would do, and viola!!! they wiped off with a sponge.



Bought another bottle (he wouldn't return mine) and took it on my last trip. A long handled brush, SPLATT and some 409 kept the front of the truck and 5er looking like new.

Lots of soap or PAM kitchen spray will assist in making the Lovebugs easy to remove. I keep a spray bottle in truck full of soap just for that purpose. During the season, May and October, I have to wash the front, windows, and mirrows after every trip. On one trip truck, started overheating because of love - bugs. They covered the bugscreen on the front of truck, could not see out of top 1/3 of windshield, had to pressure wash the truck to get rid of bugs.



Or you can drive under 45 MPH.

Thanks for all the bug tips! I'll try 'em out this weekend. I can tell you that the rain does nothing for them. You know exactly my situation pogodually, the dreaded love bugs.
