I used to leave my screen on year round also . until it got really dirty. Also used to have a piece of cardboard with a hole maybe 10 inches cut in the middle for a winter front .But theses were easy to put in and out on the second gen trucks

When I was younger living in Nebraska large juicy bugs got really bad at times in the summer. Dragon flys and huge grasshoppers etc. You had to clean the windshield very often. Then I moved up to Wyoming bugs were less bad. The wind kept them away for the most part I suppose. our bugs in Alaska are mostly smaller so I think what bc bender says is on the mark .I’m not going to worry about it. By the time it’s plugged up I won’t be driving anymore and someone else can deal with it

Took a strong light and was looking at the front of the radiator and behind the grill . A lot of things going on in there . But the damper looks like a screen all by itself. Pretty fine mesh and there’s just enough room on both sides of the hood latch to get a hose and nozzle in there for a bit of wash out. I think I’m good to go

Latest Class 8 tractors have a “window screen” material attached to the back of the grille. Glad not to have to fork out for exterior cover. It doesn’t seem to load up as much (South Texas — below San Antonio; the brush country — worst in US. FL & LA get rain. Not here. Bug species and their toughness is unreal)

Whatever the screen spacing from PACCAR it seems ideal.

Razor blade clean windshield. Go thru Blue Beacon and immediately do two apps of RAIN-X type product.

When it gets bad typical squeegee won’t clear any more (3-6k miles depending on rain in big truck service) break out the DAWN and a telescoping brush. Let sit without drying. Squeegee.

Comes a point it’s back to BB. (The money they have into chemistry for their water makes them worthwhile). R-X again.

Monthly wash both sides of grille with hood opened leaves that bug screen cleared.
