The parts that you see listed on our website is not the entire component list used in our transmissions when they are rebuilt. When a guy has a fairly new transmission in good condition and wants to do a minor upgrade of a TC, VB and servo and accumulator that is not an issue. We don’t have a problem with those parts, however a complete tear down and an actual rebuild of what is considered to be a DTT spec transmission is way beyond the capability of the average mechanically inclined individual. I am not trying to insult any body here but we are talking about expensive parts here.
If you intending on building a OEM style type transmission then yes, you can tear down and basically replace new parts and put back together in the same order you took things out and in most cases it works out fine. For these instances you can get the parts from your local transmission supplier.
Bill has had guys that tried build their own units end up sending their entire unit to him. He had to go through and fix them as they could not figure out where they went wrong, By the time the shipping there and back is all said and done, repair costs ect. down time, it ended up costing more than if an installer did it in the first place. We also cannot warranty a transmission we did not build.
The DTT transmission components are different from OEM so the specs have changed and the parts are completely different. That is why dealers must come here for training. My dealers do not just install full units they have to train at our facility, when building some of the high performance units the dealers even do lathe work in their rebuild processes based on what their end result needs to be. I think the important thing to remember is that a DTT unit is not just a bunch of parts, it is also about the care and attention to detail by the builder that makes these units what they end up being. There are no written instructions for builders as we work with either trained professionals or our own guys. Installing a full unit is a completely different scenario as most mechanically inclined guys can do that and the pressure testing required .
