Competition Help with pulling tire choice

Competition When&where are the next diesel drags?????

OK... . I know its rare, but what will it take to make a extreme 12 valve. I am trying to get an idea of which way I need to go, with this... .

I am getting a 95 2500 2wd auto 12 valve.

I plan on chopping the frame to a short bed and building a four link for the rear. I want this truck to be streetable, but with wild power. What kind of mods will it take? What can I expect to spend? Is there anyone with a truck like this in Texas I could go look at? This will be a project of mine. Please teach me how to make power out of these, I am just a 3rd gen guy. ;)

I appreciate your experience and reply in advance! :D

First off, I don't think you're going to be able to build a "streetable" 1000 hp P-pumped 12 valve. 12 valves don't have the adjustability, compared to the 3rd gen, that would allow for a 1000 hp "street" vehicle. Having said that, to get the motor to that power level will require injection pump work/tuning, a good turbo(s), injectors, intake/induction work, head work, bottom end work (balancing, girdle, etc. ), and fuel supply/delivery work. The amount you spend depends on the shop and what level of parts/work you want for the money.

You may find that with all the other work to lighten and modify the truck that you may not actually need to get to the 1000 hp mark for the truck to have "wild power".

Like I said I am new to the 12valves. Here is a list that I plan to happen, and you guys can fill in the blanks... .

Block-

O-ringed

Balanced rods and crank

Lightened crank

Forged pistons

Coat pistons, and cylinder walls

Head-

Port & Polish

Coat valves & face of head

Custom roller rockers

Heavy valve springs & keepers

Obvious mods-

Water injection

Huge turbos (which ones?)

HP Injection pump (which one..... probly custom?)

FASS 200

Huge injectors( which ones?..... probly custom, again?)

I do have some questions about parts I have never seen like, lighter rods, and oversized valves. Has anyone known of someone who makes these? I cant think of anything else???? From what I understand, the pump is what really decides if it is "streetable" or "trailer toy" right?

Do you want the 1000hp while your driving it to work and cruising around, or do you plan on de-tuning it for and then driving it around?

1000hp is really just something to shoot for, but with the 12valve being mechanical what can you "detune"?

If I could resonablly drive around 1000hp, I would, but if I cant... . then I will take as much as I can get. :D

You can do alot to de-tune a 12v just requires more work compared to say a CR, Backing the fuel off, adjusting timing, injectors, adjusting waste gate pressures

AH man, I cant just push a button! :-laf ha ha ha

OK, so can I run a pump that can make 1000hp and "detune" to cruise around???

(I know you guys are shaking you heads :-laf ... but hey if its possible ill do it :D )

Just set the governor for what, 8-900 rpm for street use?

:-laf

Put a block under the "go" pedal? So what it's naturally aspirated? :D

I have a friend who had a "streetable" 700 rwhp on diesel that made an ok daily driver. That was almost 4 years ago and without internal motor work. So your quest for 1000 should not be out of the question. Touchy throttle and lots of smoke will be your main problems, and maybe trouble starting in the cold. Good luck!

Well, I live in Texas so smoke, and the cold weather wont be a problem. :-laf

I dont plan on driving it everyday, just every once in a while. We meet up twice a week down here and talk trucks, so it would be a good toy for that. ;)

A buddy of mine WUnderwood on here says I am dreaming about building this thing to make 1000hp. IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG NOW! Oo.

Piers fuel pump or Industrial injections dragon flow pump. If the money is endless try Columbus diesel's Sigma pump or billet pump. Injectors DDP stage for or II dragon flows. Phat bastart for big turbo :-laf

To make this work parts need to be matched to compliment each other..... A good pump is where a lot of the money is going to go. The rest is into picking the right parts to make the HP and keep the engine reliable and alive.

There are lots of options :)

Yeah... cold weather. 3 weeks ago??????? Haha, I call that cold. My poor truck wasn't used to that kind of cold.

ha ha:-laf, when it gets that cold, I dont go outside my house. As far as Texans are concerned 32* is weather we dont exsist in. :-laf

the first thing your really need to do is figure out how much money you have to spend or what you would like to spend on the engine and that will have alot to do with your horsepower.

Thats the tried, tested, and true saying in the dragracing/horsepower world... Its not how fast you wanna go its how much you wanna spend!

It will be a project, I know I will not just throw it togather and go. I plan on somewhere in the $10,000 range on motor only..... over the years. :) I just have to have somthing to work on to keep from going crazy. I will take my time and do things right, I dont care if it takes 2 years to build, its just a toy.

I want to build the bottom end first as strong as possible, and run a smaller charger and stock pump so I will have it running. Then as money allows I will progress bigger and bigger. I also want to use this as a learning process for me. The internet doesnt teach you @#$% as far as I am concerned, I want to really LEARN, not just read. I want to add part by part, not just throw togather the best parts, and run either. I know there are soooooo many tricks that I will just have to learn myself, and I know that is the difference between winning and looseing.

I have other high HP gas toys, and this will be a great way to learn how to make these diesels scream! :D I appreciate everyone great advice!

Call Jeff Prince (Prince Performance in Corpus) I see his truck around town occasionaly. He runs a 12v dually - street legal - in Baytown I got him on video running a 10. 3 @ 128mph. Truly an awesome truck.

My race truck project will not start until I can get my wife an '08 challenger. I will be working with a local performance shop when the projects starts.

Smarty

Sun Caost transmission

FASS 200

dual cp3's

injectors

twins

Water/meth injection

NoS

stud and ring the heads

bigger intercooler

PDR cam

single 6 inch stack

remove fuel tank

fuel cell in bed

slicks

last but not least... ... . gut the engine compartment and interior.

Ill have about a $20,000 budget to start, so it may take me a couple of years.
