Competition Cant Outpull The Auto Ps Diesels

Competition Newbie Puller Needs Help

Here is a link to the NWBombers where I have pictures and what have you.

Thought I would put it on here incase it could help someone. We are building them from a box of tubing and no experience, so I was thinking there are probably others that may benifit from this. Also any help or guidance is hugely appreciated. Mind you we cant order anything and we are building these in a hobby shop on a base with very very limited supplies and equipment.

Also if you wouldnt mind any guesses as to what kinda numbers it should put out with the addition of the 3b and what in my sig? I am hoping to dyno it when I pick it up from the shipping company when it gets back in country, but I am curious.

A side note there are two of us TDR members stationed here. One in each branch of service... Navy and Airforce

Here's a thought for the limited tool issue. Since I'm not sure if your Navy or AF, there better be one of my fellow AF Metals Tech guys in the weld/machine shop there. You "might" be able to get a favor from them to TIG weld the inlet pipes to prevent mig splater from killing a turbo. Not to mention you might be able to use the saws & drill press for any fab work you might need. I'm "sure" those pipes & parts are off of some piece of military equipment. What's the deal with shipping, your not that far from NY. Where you moving to after Iceland?

Will do Hoss... ... Back on the right side of the world may26th to check out and on terminal leave no later than june 4th. But we have to gind a stinkin house to

that we can afford. Then its Indy in july :D Then she gets the other 11 days. They are tellin me that my truck may take up to 90 days to get to tacoma :(

Nope no Airforce for me. Shipping is bad cause its space available. Its really hit or miss some times things are fast other time you have to wait 11 weeks for a clutch. I ordered the tubing from airflow someone or other. Funny thing is that the hobby shop has a tig that works and no mig, so its all tig. As far as where I am going. I am going to school in northern Idaho for a couple years then not sure where.

couple pictures... .

We only have the intercooler pipe, the down pipe, and to finish up the airfilter pipe and they are done!

one in the truck

They arent the perfect nor are they the best lookin out there, but a friend of mine and myself built them out of a box of elbows and it was a first for both of us, so I am more than happy with them so far.

Seriously, nice job!

EVERYBODY, even the best names out there, ALL built their first set of twins like you guys did, in a cold garage fabbin' and fittin up parts by hand.

Sweet.

He's doing a fine job with them, I got to see it and chat with him when I was in Iceland this weekend, it should work great once he gets his wastegate in the manifold.

Thanks for your help Jim... . talk about forgeting more than a person knows. It was way too cool of you to come out and check out the truck while you were here and put up with my talking and questions.

Well we got everything in the truck, but it is seeming more like a step back with out a wastegate setup. I only made a 2/3 run, taken'er easy, but that bottom charger comes on at about 20-25psi. It screams though but when its not lit off the truck is actually quieter. The egts are no better than they were cause i have to route everything thru the small charger. I am going to find a spring to rig to the wastegate. Aside from that my initial impressions are that it is a little less responsive than it used to be. Why is that? The small charger is the same so shouldnt it of stayed the same?

Another question I have is what do yuo all do with the heater lines? I have two layers of heat wrap around the hotpipe and it still tore up the heater line.

when I get the good pictures form my friend I will put a finished setup for you all.

Thanks

inertia,

You have two turbines in the exhaust stream now and the exhaust cools 300 degrees or so when it crosses the first housing on the way to the second, so there is a restriction AND less heat to deal with the SECOND and BIGGER turbine wheel.

Result is a little more lag. :(

Wrap those exhaust housings, too.

Well I am a partial retard. I wired the wastegate backward. Got it wired in the other way and it wasnt near as bad.

The guy who helped fabricate and did all the welding, Mr Wade Jones, rode in it for the first time. Matter of fact it was his first "tweeked" diesel ride ever. I got it warmed up bringing him home and had the vallet on and brought it up to as far as it will go. I looked at him and said, "pretty freakin cool huh?" He wasnt impressed. :-laf So I turned my switch which lights up a little red light, He askes me what is that? I told him... ... fuel. Then I told him that with these here diesel pick ups ya gotta build a lil boost before you pedal into 'em too far, as I was doin it, Brought it very sneakily to 25 psi and hammered 4th and put him in his seat. I think the big truck moved a lot quicker than he was thinkin, cause he was clenched to that door handle pretty well :D I only went into it about 2/3 throttle cause I stopped it at 60psi. Man that big charger comes on hard!! I cant wait to get the wastegate setup and have a bit of fun.

He told me tomorrow I will have the good pictures.

Thanks to all for your help.

when I got back home from my trip you were already farther than any pic's I told you on NWB I would do. . glad all is well and looking good !
