Those of you that have gotten your 48RE "built" with triple disk convertor, billet input shaft and flex plate, new valve body, new clutches and steels, reinforced drum anchor, etc...

Have you noticed more power to ground? I read an article in Diesel Power that claimed more power and torque was making it to the rear wheels, something like 150 to 200 ft-lbs more !!! and I just want to confirm with people that have done it.

Does your truck feel more powerful?

I'm suffering in the 5 stages of "auto transmission rebuild time" and I think I'm past denial, anger, etc stages and into the acceptance and best way to get it done stage...

Thanks,

Louis

Yes, there was / is a big diiference in the way my truck felt after I had my built trans put in... . Now it is even better with my Smarty!

However, be prepared for some tweaks after your install. I have been dealing with codes, because the ECM does not like the higher presure from a mod valve body and the triple disc. You may have to live with some code like it or not. It will not be a problem in performance or reliability..... However, codes may turn off your dealership, and god-forbid emmissions testing centers.

Good Luck... . You will think you got a "NEW" truck!

Louis, Where are you going to go for a transmission?

I have heard a lot of good things about the Autos the Rip can build for you. You should give him a call.

I had mine done about two weeks ago, and yes it does feel like it's putting more power to the ground. I have not had any code issues. I too have a Smarty, only tried level 3 and 5. No transmission issues on 3 or 5 just smoke issues.

I have the 250hp motor and at the time of my transmission build i had very few mods just a intake and a muffler... it made the truck drive like junk felt like a non turbo slow shifted bad but once the smarty was on the higher it went the better it gets... you will really love it if you pull a trailer i love geting people off guard at red lights... ... best money spent for sure.

I have had my DTT build for about 5 weeks. I did notice maybe a little less "gas" pedal to get moving. It is nowhere near 150-200 ft-lbs that you mentioned Diesel Power referred to, they do sell a lot of advertising space for aftermarket transmissions.

On the subject of setting codes due to higher oil pressure, my DTT installer used an adjustable voltage regulator that maintains the transmission pump pressure input voltage to the PCM within acceptable range and I have had no codes.

I do like how the trannny shifts now and I really like being able to maintain TC lockup.

It was an expensive mod, I want to believe it was worth it. I guess time will tell.

My DTT installer recommended a yearly fluid and filter change based on my annual mileage, and I do not need to use synthetic.

My $. 02 worth.

I think what you'll notice is that the torque converter will be "tighter" - similar to what THoltz said. The uprated / more efficient TC will be trying to move your truck forward at lower RPM, so it will feel like the truck has more 'power'. It's kind of disconcerting at first as you'll feel that you have to use more brake to hold the truck back - it just means the mighty Cummins is ready to get to work.

So, that phenomenon along with the new shift points and the firmer shifts along with a TC that will actually lock up and stay locked up longer all combine to give a seat-of-the-pants sensation that you have more power. You're finally just getting more of what you have to the ground and not wasting it like the stock TC does.

p. s. DTT = no codes

I've only been talking to Bill and Robert at Rip's. They are great people and answer all questions and show me the improved vs. stock parts. They really take to time to thoroughly answer all my questions. I'm going to them to have the work done... ;)

Thanks,

Louis
