Fuel Mileage, Prices and Weight

Need advice--or best 14" tires

Not to mention the K&N does a horrible job of filtering, and lets oil by that can damage the turbo... . I would guess any increase in mileage is from a crappy filtering job... .

Agreed completely! The K&N WILL dust your cylinder walls and turbo, so if you plan on keeping your CTD for a long period of time it's not a matter of "If", rather "when" and to what degree. And yes, I know this from first hand experience from a trusted mechanic/acquantance that has shown me the difference on the cylinder walls. He has lost count of how many 3rd Gen and newer CTD's he has personally worked on running a K&N with scarred cylinder walls and turbo issues.

That increased flow doesn't come at no cost (poor filtration). Also, keep in mind that any unbiased study I have seen on aftermarket intakes (including TDR) show very little gain to even a loss on the aftermarket intakes vs the stock setup on the dyno. Agreed that the better flow of an aftermarket intake is needed to control EGT's on a MODDIFIED CTD pushing lots of fuel (i. e. CTD with a fueling box).

AH,

The front wheels are stamped 2600#s. X2. The axle will carry the increased load.

Hmm... That seems really really low... My wheels dont go front and rear and I know they are good for at least 3100lbs each, and I would be shocked if dually wheels are weaker... .

Perhaps the issue is really with the less than desireable Dodge tow guide, which makes it very hard to discern between configurations (i. e. SRW vs DRW ratings on the current year). Any other documentation I have seen shows that 2500 GVWR is 9,000lbs from the start of the 3rg gen to the current m/y.

Hmm... I can choose the options pretty darn close, SLT vs ST, QC vs SC, LB vs SB, 4x4 vs 4x2, Man vs Auto... And if you look at the GVWR you can tell what is a SRW and what is a DRW, 9900 vs 12200..... But I do agree that is may be the issue... . look at the curb weight of front vs rear. . . these trucks are not 50:50...

I have looked in the door of my dads 06 the sticker says 8800... . But my brother has a 2006 2500 QC LB with a Hemi, and his door sticker is lower than 8800... but the website says 8800 ???

The GAWR on the rear of a 2500 is also 190lbs lower than a SRW 3500... . With the only difference being overloads...

Years ago, Ford published a towing manual that you could look at and calculate the GVW rating you really needed. It actually showed the factory weight of a specific truck. When you added the a/c option it showed how much weight the a/c would add to the front end and how much to the rear end. (Or how much it would delete from either). You could figure to the pound where factory options would add. They also offered the option of two different axle capacities for the front end. Some trucks still offer that. The new 4500/5500 has different front axle options. Personally I would like to be able to keep the "3500" but be able to order super duty brakes front/rear. Keep the same rear springs to give you a decent ride. The 4500/5500 will beat you and your RV to pieces.

By the way all my wheels are stamped 2,600#s
