i thought about that. you could cut more clearance (metal off) that cross member...
A side note i have about 1500lbs in truck bed at all times. i hand-loaded a pallet of sod on top (cab high) an checked clearance it was close but then i just aired the bags up and was at factory height. (but i do have the 1 ton overloads)

i believe this is the only reason dodge say not to put the drive shaft on the older trucks, per mopar notes when parts department looked it up. )

i assume. . just haven't confirmed. the middle section of the new drive shaft, i am told is like a foam (or some kind of coating) so if you lightly scuff it, it should be fine.

I just installed a new alum. one piece on a 2004 4 door long box 4x4. After looking at this thread, I went out and measured. I have about 3" clearance, with no load.

Not unless you get a local shop to build one.
I have that same configuration and used a Mopar 1 pc for a 2008 MegaCab with a G56 manual. I bought it and took it straight to a driveline shop where they shortened it 1. 5" and rebalanced it. They said they'd been doing lots of them lately.

Doghouse Diesel. They can cover all configurations now. It will be a custom. The price is a little less than I was quoted locally ($850). And, I was going to have to supply the slip joint and rear flange for that price. If I do it, I want a bolt in. I can't sit around waiting to use my truck for even a couple days.

Rob, I'm not sure how you can supply the slip joint and flange unless they're just building a steel shaft. Those parts are steel and cant be welded to an aluminum shaft unless there's some new way to do it that I've never heard of.

The slip joint and rear mounting flange are attached to the main shaft by the u-joints.

Thats right ~ forgot about that part. But then you would be using smaller U-joints than the new Mopar shafts come with. Probably not a big deal though.

The Doghouse custom shaft gives you the option of larger u-joints. I'm pretty sure with my HD I have 1480's with the 11. 5 AAM rear end. I'll measure the joint I took out a few months ago to make sure.

Yep, I have 1. 375 x 4. 125 (1480) in both the rear joints and the front axle.
