Gravel theft, what next?

What a stupid idea, again punishing people that are in know way connected to the animal kingdom in the Chicago Jungle. "70 percent of shooting victims have no insurance" you don't say? How about you reduce the gubmint cheese by 10% per "household" and allocate those funds toward keeping the homies alive to shoot each other another day? This is most definitely a symptom of the all too famous Chicago political structure. The same thing is going on back in California, these morons can't seem to figure out that imposing taxes on someone in an attempt to alter a DIFFERENT persons ideology is beyond psychotic.

What these idiots will never understand is that this will actually reduce revenues (taxes) as it will drive sales out of cook county.

If I need to buy bullets... I would simply buy them outside the county. Voila! I've got my bullets and they got $0. 00 in tax revenue that they used to get before they added the additional tax.

Gun control, not revenue, is the intent of the tax. Tagging it to health care funding just gussies it up:

"If approved by the Cook county commission, the nation's third most populous county could be the first major metropolitan area in the nation to impose a tax as a form of gun control, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. "

The same public policy philosophy (nationwide and worldwide) applies to cigarettes and alcohol, some states (ie CA) much more than others, which is of course the weakness of the policy. People can usually drive to a more favorable location (ie NV). Costs gas though. There is a reliable human trait in play. People who need or want something badly enough will buy it at whatever the cost. This is viewed by public policy advocates as a win/win. They either get higher tax revenue or a predictable behavior modification objective. As in all such things, people have the power of the ballot box. If that fails to change things, that's life in our republic. I've learned to accept what I cannot change. The "people" have spoken. If I really can't stand it I move. Done that a few times.

I sorry that this has come about but the only thing that will bother me is if they do the samething in MT and I really dont think that would happen anytime soon as MT is about 20years behind the other states on any legislation on anything. I dont use lead bullets for rifle except the Marlin in 45/70 but you guys are missing an opportunity for handgun bullets if you are not taking advantage of this way, they have no idea of what this will turn into. In just a few days work you can have MORE THAN ENOUGH bullets for the rest of the year. I dont know for sure but I would bet that we shoot WAY MORE than most and we have hardly made a dent in the bullet stock pile this year. And that's with about 5 people shooting most every weekend or at LEAST 2 WEEKENDS A MONTH
