#8 TST and Smoke

Got my Step 2's installed the other day, and paired with my EZ, this truck really screams :D! The only problem, the clutch is now, for lack of a better term, toasted .

The truck runs really strong, and smoked really bad (I love it!). Then today, the clutch finally said "NO MORE". I was comming home, felt it begin to slip, and that was it. Oh, well, time for a Southbend . With the EZ on level 1, and me babying it, I can get going fairly well. But if I nail it, RPMs come up, speed doesn't change.

And one more question. How much difference have you guys noticed with these injectors. It has a rumble at an idle, and when I let off to stop, it stumbles a little, then picks right back up (just barely noticable). Just curious. I does sound better though.

I have it too

I had the same type of idle, kinda a 'romp, romp, romp' for lack of a better way to describe, with the step 3's and now with the 5's. Doesn't do it often, much more so with hot humid days for mine. It's very intermittent, most of the time the idle is as smooth as when stock. I'm guessing it's just a characteristic of the larger injectors. As long as my acceleration stays smooth, which it has, I'm happy.

Hey Giz. . I thought U had the BD III's??? Only one thing to do now... (let me use the EZ for a while, so U don't toast the rest of your clutch. . hahaa. . ) This was one thing I looked at when buying my truck. . I would have like the 6 speed, but just pull from time to time on the weekends so I could live with the 5 sp, but the 5 sp clutch has a little more surface area than the 6 sp. . Not much. . but just enough to make a difference... I wish we had the old Sach clutch like the first gen's had. . lots of surface area. .

I guess I'll have to wait for a ride with the mods until the new clutch is in... . Good luck...

Bryan...

I should have all my gauges install tomorrow... later.

i have step 4's and at times it will "lope" at idle. i think it is cool and actually try to get it to do it on ocassions. if you vip the throttle a little with the air on it will start doing it. :D

I try to do it around other trucks, Fords and Cheby's, to intimidate them. :D

as for the smoke I have never noticed it.

maybe becuase I'm always in front of it. :D

its just like Nascar, keep a straight line and your foot in it, and you should make it out the other side just fine. :D

lol@ToddT :D

I especially like the comment on not recognizing the smoke and the NASCAR reference

I can make mine lope at will, just activate the e-brake, lopes for a couple of seconds then you hear this hisssssss coming out of the stack, makes you think a 20 foot Python is behind ya.

Ok, now I feel stupid (what's new?) .

This weekend, I began to take my transmission down to inpect the clutch. I took off the slave cylinder, and Lo and Behold, it wasn't lined up in the housing. I can't figure out what happened. I took it out, and stuck it back it like it's supposed to be, and the truck pulls fine now.

Just one of those freak conicidences I suppose. Pulled a loaded trailer afterward without the slightest hint of slip. GO FIGURE  . Oh well, saved me from $600 so far. Ever noticed it's always something simple?!

Still no clue as to the stumble. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, watch it really close when you let off the throttle. My fuel pressure fluctuates when the stumble occurs. Maybe a connection?

Now I am starting to get a clutch 'complex'.

I have the same combination and I romp it all the time and the clutch holds all the time. Even while towing. I am making well over 310 hp on the dyno.

I guess I just got lucky, or did I???
