Dual mass flywheel vs the Vibration

Hello everyone, I am a first time owner of a CTD, just bought a new 05 and absolutely love it, but I am itching to hop it up a bit. I've put a straight threw muffler on because it already has 4" exhaust, just had to get rid of that restricted muffler and I'm thinking about getting the Power Pup with crazy larry for some extra power.

Has anyone used this programmer, and is it worth buying?

What else would be a good hop up, keep in mind it has to remain a daily driver and tow.

I have the power pup on my 2004. 5 it has been on now for about 10k miles. I like it but I will not run it over the 90 hp setting. If your transmission is the automatic that is all that it can take. I strongly reccoment getting it with the outlook monitor so you can keep a eye on the egt. It also defuels it at you preset tempuratures. My concern is the fuel rail pressure, and there is alot of smoke when you first hit the throttle. I have had the boost over 40 psi and I understand that could be a problem on the 2005 trucks because of the plastic cooler that the 04. 5 doesn't have. I am sure you know that you become the warranty station after the mods, and to be honest I think that I would have been happy with the truck stock had I not installed the pup. But once you experience the performance you can't go back to stock.

well,,,,,,,,,,,,,put the pup on my 03. absolutely loved it. mpg increase and the power increase was amazing.

rail pressure increase was low and safe and no prssr increase in tow setting. timing/duration and presure all in moderation to give cool egt for the power increase. the bdog powerpup is the best rte to go on a 3rd gen.

I am a lot happier with the performance I get from the Power Pup. I have a TST that worked great until the turbo change. I tried stacking a Edge EZ. It didn't give me nearly the performance increase of the downloader. Now that I have the downloader I run the TST on 0/0. Crazy Larry setting gives me more than the TST on 5/2 or 4/3.

Caveman-

How does the Crazy Larry get more output compared to the other programs? More duration and/or pressure?

So is it true that the dealerships can tell if you run the powerpup, even if you changed the settings back to stock? If so, how can they tell?

How much of an increase in fuel mileage did you get?

The BDDL leaves a time stamp in your computer everytime a program is changed so if they hook up a scan tool and put 2+2 together...

On my '03 I get 16. 7 mpg average in town with the BDDL on extreme and the VA on 100%. On a recent 1500 mile trip to Denver and back (empty) I averaged 18-19 mpg on the interstate with the cruise set at 75-78 mph with the same box settings.

Before any performance boxes I averaged 16. 5 mpg all around driving. All mileage is hand-calculated.

Thanks for the info. I've got my bullydog on order, should be here tomarro :)

I still need to get some gauges, should I worry about my EGT's pulling a light load on tow level? Atleast until I get my gauges

Another person piping in to say how pleased I am w/ the pup. I will admit I am concerned w/ the time stamp but I also came to the conclusion a long time ago that I am my warranty station. I have never run the extreme setting because I am too chicken. But the perf setting is enough for me. I had the pup stacked w/ the Ramifier and I was happy as all get out w/ that stack. I spent most of the time w/ the Ramifier turned all the way to zero but whenever the "need" arised I would turn the knob and there were a few po'd people trying to figure out how a truck just passed them. Now if I can just get a little help on how to tie the Ramifier in w/ the outlook monitor I will be a happy camper again.

I am also very pleased with the Power Pup. I have not used the tow setting, but the EGT on the performance setting seems to be pretty close to stock. I pulled 10-12k lbs trailer and the EGT did not get over 1100* and this occurred when accelerating pretty hard up a slight hill.

I would strongly suggest not putting the program on until you put in the EGT. It is just too tempting. Just my $. 02

I had my BDDL on the tow mode on a 900mile trip (one way) and set back to stock on the return trip and could not really tell much difference oneway or the other. The EGT would run up to 1200 pulling my load on either tow or stock. I am still kind of afraid to even run it on the performance mode. I think that I am a little TOO cautious and yes at least get the EGT GAUGE if nothing else before bombing it.

Was your EGT sending unit mounted pro or post turbo

Just got back from Myrtle Beach. I picked up the 40' Teton 5th wheel in Florida, so it was my first pull with the 2003. Why not, put 15,000 lbs behind it, and watch it pull. I downloaded the extreme when I bought BD DL'er, and I just didn't like it. Too jerky, cruise was too sensitive. I love the performance setting, so I left it in. I use the outlook on 75%, and on steep grades, the defueling came in & out. I set it at 1350 degrees pre-turbo.

Speaking of boost, I can't get above 24 psi reading on Outlook. I think more air would certainly help me on EGT's b-4 defueling. Anyone have any ideas?

Anyway, BD DL'er works as advertised. Unfortunately, while camped, I was driving around empty, and the truck just stalled. Happened again a day later, so I decided to change the filter. Unfortunately, it looked good, and I couldn't get primed again. Tow it to the dealer. Lift pump died at 59k mile.

DC is retrofitting pumps in the tanks now, and not messing with old system. Yeah, finally, I hope they last. If not, can't change as easily as old system up on filter housing.

Not sure if the BD DL'er had anything to do with it, but I re downloaded the stock program while dead, and DC did not say a word.
