Sorry about that Scott - I never imagined that the new one's would be $1000!

I figured around $800, and you said you had to pay $500 difference, so . . . I figured you were probably getting around $300 for the used ones. Oh well.

Chris... . Am I thinking what you're thinking... . HMMMMMMMMMM, I could get that Visa that they want me to have... HHMMMM... 7%... lets see I could pay that off in maybe..... 2 months... ... ..... No, I think a PE Comp is next on the list... .....

Towing with stage III's....

John, I was hoping someone with a manual transmission would answer your question. Anyway, I tow an 8500lbs. travel trailer with my Bullydog stage 3's and have never been over 1250 degrees. I run my EZ box on the "timing only" jumper setting when I'm towing. If I moved the jumper over to add more fuel I could obviously create some unnecessarily high EGT's. I say unnecessarily because I have the power to pull any hill I've encountered while keeping right in tempo with the traffic flow around me. I'm not holding up anyone. (Ozark mountains) Off boost smoke can get pretty Thick and Messy, so if Lots of smoke would be an issue to you then I would recommend something a little less aggressive. If I were back at square one again and just starting my BOMBing mission, I think I would go with stage I's. (Or maybe II's if my neighbor had a Duramax. ) ;) Hope this helps. Have Fun. :) :)

the more I feel that I don't want to go to the Stage III's, especially since I want the power for towing. Other than the clutch, am I looking at other problems that may need to be addressed? Bigsaint, did you do any towing with your Stage III's? Anybody? TIA

John

John... I just got home yesterday from towing 11,000lbs of hay and trailer. I have the Blue Chip box and their boost fooler. There are a lot of grades between Pendleton, Oregon and Seattle, about 320 miles.

When I would leave the box turned off, with my DD3s, EGTs never passed 1000. Boost was steady at 28lbs.

With the box on, EGTs would climb, but I only used it for short bursts to keep from getting pinned in behind slow moving vehicles. The BB allows me to accelerate at will, regardless of the grade. I love it. With that being said, I think the E Brake is my most used accessory. Check the signature to see how closely we are set up.

Scott, glad to see you are happy with your newest upgrade. :D

all of what he said is true, I have step 4's and they CAN smoke a little under low boost as well.

as for the towing issue, I was taken aback a few weeks ago, when i finnally got the chance to tow my little tractor (6000lbs).

it didnt do too bad on the EGT's, maybe 50F hotter on take-off. it was smouldering hot out that weekend too(90+F). but it did have a constant stream of smoke out the back, rather than just during low boost. now, keep in mind i didnt pull any hard, long, grades with it in tow so the EGT's could be a problem if you really had to work it up a long grade with 10-15000lbs behind it. mine stayed under 1150F with some moderate to hard trips up through the gears.

I am planning a trip to pick up a load of wood next week with mine. i hope i can make it back up some of those hills without having to get out of it. where im going has some whopers on the way back.

I'll keep you all posted. :D

if your the leader, the view never changes, all the rest are just sucking huge clouds of black soot :D :D

Mine are about the same Todd, I just pulled the 17% grade in our town tonight, unloaded and going 'somewhat over' the posted speed limit of 45. Egt's stayed below 1050 pre-turbo. Funny thing is, I get this when ever I start my truck.....

TopFuel and Rob: Thanks for the info. I put the 275's in on Friday night. I think I'll be happy where I'm at, power wise. I was not as concerned about EGT's as I was about the clutch. I'm going to Bristol next month for the Cup race and I'm towing the trailer. There are some big grades on I-26, especially the one right into North Carolina (8%). Didn't need to be slipping the clutch and losing power.
