Just installed my new Bullydog Torque Dog box today and my clutch just aint havin it. I can slip it on command in 5th and 6th at any speed. I was hoping the clutch would be stouter than previous models but I guess not. Can't complain though, the truck runs better than I expected it would with just an add-on box. The thing I cant get over is how well it runs without smoking like a frieght train like my other trucks used to. If you nail it from right off idle it will smoke thick for a split second and clear up instantly on the high setting. The middle setting smoke is almost non existant and the power is good and strong. :)

sorry to hear

my clutch holdin so far. for how long noone knows. im just careful on hi and dont use hi to tow. just low[mid position]. the 03 clutch is way stronger than 2nd gen tho

i love the bdog box but yep,,,,,,,i too wish i had more smoke

have funOo.

muddy,

I too have a longing for smoke. Today I was running at 70 mph and holding on flat land. I was flipping the switch from off to level 1. I would see and increase in EGT's and Boost with it off. I could see 30 psi with it off and EGT's would rise 180*-220*. I again say that was with it off. How much cooler can this get? More horsepower, no smoke, lower EGT's, and Less boost. That means our truck works less to go the same speed. Less wear and tear. Have you seen this happen too? The same with mileage. . I also saw an increase in mileage over the same trip (300 miles round trip to my sisters) that I did two times. First time I got 16. 5 and two weeks later I got 16. 8. Before I got the box I saw milage on the same trip of 12. 6 mpg... ..... 4 mpg too!!!

Can it get any better... ... ..... Oh yea, I beat up a Honda today that was trying to pass on the wrong side of the road. He even had the Hi HP sticker kit and the 5" exhaust tip... ... When he finally caugt up at the next light he just shook his head..... Man I love this truck... ... ..... Thanks Bully Dog... ... ... ... ... ... Greg

I am probably in the minority here but I'm glad mine doesn't smoke. That seems to be what impresses people most when they see my new truck (along with how quiet it is). I also think this will get lots of people currently in gassers interested in CTD's.

greg, yep, when the rig works less to maintain 70 mph cruise then the egt and boost be less. also can thank the timing for lowering egt. but under a pull the boost is greater of course, with a lower egt than stock, at a given speed up the hill. i wannna expieriment with adj boost elbo to limit boost to 35 max on hi. im runnin stock elbow at this time

ya can thank the timing for the mpg increase and also the fact the truck works less and pulls the hill in a higher gear. when i dont play, which is hard not to, i get mpg increase. the b-dog box will pay for itself in mpg savings but if it didnt increase mpg id still love it for the fun it produces:D makes it a whole different truckOo.

glad ya likin yo rig and its performance as much as i like mine. its fun:D its,,,,,,,,,,,,a way of lifeOo.

p-dog, ya got lots agreein w/ ya bout the smoke. lots disagreein too] bad thing it brings unwanted attn from the stinkin liberals who moan to the lawmakers. also smokin is wastin diesel but i think its fun at the right time and place:cool: these common rail rigs are too efficient to smoke much. maybe thats why 3rd gen rigs, even bein heavier get bettr mpg than isb 2nd gens, least my 3rd gen compared to my 2 2nd gens

Muddy,

I think this tank is @ 12. 5 mpg... ..... :( I must have that same problem you were talking about. :D Did you ever run yours with the injectors?

Oh yea, This thread is about clutch slippage. No smoke yet;)

Maybe I'm just lost or stupid. But your getting 14. 9 mpg while pulling over 9000#'s?????

I'm getting 15. 2 running empty 1/4 city and 3/4 65 mph highway driving.

If this is the case I think I have a POS truck!

your mpg is low! i can get at least 18mpg unloaded easy. if i drove 65 and kept my foot out of it 19+. i got 16. 8 this weekend on a 480 mile trip w/ ac on the whole time and that was driving 74mph for 220miles on the way there and 83mph for 220 miles on the way home this also included some city, WOT, and trips up to 100mph. i dont think a chip is going to help my mpg much but we will see. if it does help then i guess i will be seeing 18mpg all the time and maybe even 20.

Greg 13. 1 mpg loaded

LOL that's not even funny! Last towing trip with the offroad trucks (2) and the 28 foot goose I was towing about 14,000 #'s .

8. 9 mph loaded

15. 1 empty

27 years old.

I really don't want to wait 9 years for this truck to get better mileage. So I ordered a bunch of parts to make it go faster! Oo. Oo.

Wouldn't a little smoke be o. k. ?

Well OK, but just a little now ;)

I have to confess to clouding out a BMW or two with my 93. I work near Microsoft and we have this 2 lane on ramp that starts from a dead start. The old 93 could just humiliate a 3 series and cover them with soot at the same time! :-laf

Could be. Mine is getting 20 to 21 average mostly on Dallas freeways. I have had a tank or 2 that toped 22 MPG on road trips. I do keep to the speed limit and use the cruise.

My worst tank was 19 MPG. I have a nice spread sheet that I have been keeping track of my mileage since I brought it home.
