Considering trying out the Bullydog downloader but have a few questions.

1) What are the differences between the powerpup and the triple dog as far as features/offerings?

2)What type of MPG gain can be had? Hand calculated or fuel log results only, overhead MPG numbers are useless for comparison.

3) Which program is the best for MPG gain? I imagine tow, but those with experience and a light foot may know different.

Just trying to get my 04. 5 up a bit in mpg with the best return on investment.

Currently getting an honest 16-17 (Hand calc) around town, rural backroad and some traffic from all developments springing up pushing us farmboys out.

Also would not mind being able to dump a bit more black smoke on the development idiot bicycle clubs hogging on back country roads the way my 96 CTD did.

if they boost rail pressure they won't give you better mileage. I took off my Quad box and mileage went up 2mpg

I bought the Triple Dog with Outlook monitor about 6 months ago. From the first tank on the "TOW" setting, I had a mileage boost of 1 mpg city, and 2 highway. Right now I average 17 city, and 20-22 highway if I stay under 70. If you run the programmer on any of the settings (TOW, PERFORMANCE, or EXTREME) and just use it to drive normally, there is NO fuel rail pressure change. The rail pressure increase kicks in at WOT and at rpms above 2700. Lots of people drive around with their programmers on Performance or Extreme 24/7 with no problems. If you search for "Bully Dog" related posts, you will find a lot of satisfied Bully Dog users, and lots of people bashing the product with no real knowledge behind their claims.
Bottom line, trust those that have first hand experience, or can point to solid fact somewhere else. There are a lot of people badmouthing and bashing things at all the forums that don't know what they're talking about!!
Cheers
Mike

p-bar
Where did you get the AMSOIL dual filter setup, how do you like it, how much did it set you back?
Thanks

I have the power pup and have used it on performance and extreme settings. Both get a little better milage than stock, but you cann't keep your foot burried on the go pedal the whole time or the milage drops back (extreme especially). I have liked the bully dog program and the only slight issue is that is surges sometimes when on cruise control while on the extreme setting (when the speed drops a bit, it gets the vehicle back up to speed real quick causing a little bit of a surge). I have 03 4x4 six speed and get over 18-19 in town and 20-21 on the highway (at 65-75 mph) empty (hand calc. ).

I have been able to tow 25 foot cattle trailer with no egt problems and have also pulled a couple of times with the extreme setting. I do have a straight through exhaust and modified intake.

The extreme setting does allow for coal production when the RPM's are in the lower range. I have never used the tow program.

I am running the performance setting and never tried the other two. 2 MPG gain, all hand calculated. I haven't seen any difference in the way the truck operates. A lot more towing power. Doc
