Posted this on the 1st gen list cuz it's a 1st gen motor but, I've got a 1995 47RH transmission. I'm really at a loss as to which list I "should" be posting to. I guess I have a bit of a list identity crisis!

Well were motorin again! A bunch of little stuff to do yet but at least it moves under its own power. Lift pump is weak, left me stranded at discount tire. Using a electric I had lying around until my new one comes in. Will finish the exhaust friday, it dumps out under the passenger seat now. I'm running about 25 lbs max boost with a 12cm housing and a stock tuned pump, does this sound right? EGT's have never been over 800 and cruising stay at about 600. Will tweek the pump a little friday. I must say that this stock TC sucks. Talk about sloppy! That will have to be dealt with in the future. I've got all my photos in digital format now but need to find the time to put them up on a web page. Maybe this week end. I'll let everyone know.

Anyone that has the audacity and the intelligence to put a Cummins B5. 9 into anything will be welcome to post into the 1st Gen. and the 12 Valve forums!!

Welcome and lets get some response.

Hey Congrads. I am still ammassing info on putting a 5. 9 into my 94 burb. Did you see the 95 on the cummins repower page? Would love to see your pics. Its looking like my project is going to cost around 8 grand just for parts so I'm gonna be saving and buying for a while. I m thinking about just buying a rolled 96 -98 and using what I can and selling the rest. But anyway what an awesome suv you have my man.

Nate Skate,
I have been thinking of doing the same thing, but where is an auction around our area that sells to the public? Most truck salvage places sell the engine for almost much as a rolled truck. I need a good long term project to play with all the tools I have been buying.

After I sell off all the stuff that is left over I should be into this for around $8000. I to looked for wrecked trucks and they were almost as much as running ones! Buying a complete truck is the way to go. If you try to piece part it it will nickel and dime you to death. The best price I could get on a complete used 5. 9 with under 100K on it was in the $4000 range. I ended up buying a complete running 90 one ton for $4800! That gave me the big axles and all the ticky tacky parts I ended up needing.

I know a guy in T'ville KY that will take me to auctions and buy new vehicles of my choosing for 400. 00 fee. Im gonna check how much he'd charge for a wreck. WHen might you be in the market? I wont be buying for several months. Im really stoked though. So did you check out the Cummins repower page with the 95 burb?

bvanetten,
Great idea, it should bring the value up on the burb.
Good idea to buy whole truck.
Congratulations on a job well done!
I don't get over to first gen to much, so it was kind of them to let you post on both forums so we in the 12 v sec can read about the progression you are making.

Try this link for auction wrecks. I got a wrecked 96 4x4 for $1700. You can even bid online #ad

Nate,
It will be at least that long until I get enough time to work on something this big again. If you start finding really good deals, let me know. Repower sight is cool. I have a friend interested in doing a smaller swap. Those little 6 cylinders might just be the ticket for him.

LarryB,
I have been trying to look at that sight at least once a month, however there aren't any auction sights near our region. What would you consider a good sight unseen bid for a wrecked truck. Obviously you got a great deal.

How bad was the wreck? Was it a rollover? I'm wondering to what extent of damage I should look for since little things like intercooler damage could run up to $800. $1700 is the kind of ballpark I would love to find.

Mine was a real bad total. only things left were engine, transmission, transfer case and rear axel. Box and tailgate were usable too. You are right about intercooler, radiator, fan, fan clutch, damper. After buying all the stuff I needed, it did add up. See my site last page for a table showing all costs. I thought about buying a 1st gen for around 5gs but I wanted a P7100 and more specific a 96-98. I had to watch the aucton site for over a year before the perfect one came along.

Good luck!
Larry
