My 2016 is the first automatic transmission I have ever owned, don’t like it.
I feel your pain regarding clutch burn, couple of tire shop jockeys & a valet or two took a few miles of my 2001 Ram 2500 5 speed standard transmission clutch. Wish I hadn’t gotten rid of her for this 2016. Taught all my kids to drive a standard from the git go, told them learn on this and you can drive anything!

I HATE SHIFTING! Nothing worse than stop and go traffic for miles than push clutch in, let clutch out, push clutch in, let clutch out. Ill Take the slush box anytime. Great on grades from a stop. Put it in gear and go. Nothing better.. to me anyway.

I remember the two gear jam up on my dads Chevy that had three on the tree! Common thing with a lot of the tree shifters. His would jam when shifting from the non synchro first gear to second gear. Good memories!
And it got stuck in two gears at the same time, which was a common issue in the 70's, that would really throw them for a loop.

I agree about slush box trannies now. Hills at a light are easy compared to stick shifter. I bought stick shift cars for my daughters and wife cause I felt it was necessary to know how to drive a car! My new eight speed ZF is so easy to drive. When I went to auto, they all followed suit! LOL.

My '67 Chevy C-10 would do that. I finally got tired one day of dealing with it, and bought the replacement bushings for the shift linkage on the column shaft, and that fixed that ~

My 55 broke the clutch return spring... fun..

A clutch return spring is minor.. Lose a throw out bearing, NO clutch at all, on I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway in Philly when it was under construction in the late 80's, driving a 13 speed with a loaded trailer. Made it to the customer in Pitman NJ and backed it into the dock.

Paul,

Had a similar incident with my 2016 2500 6 speed. Young fellow doing the car wash thing at my dealership "SAID" he could drive a standard but I went with him anyway. He was able to put the truck in first gear and that was about it. When we rounded the corner to pull into the wash bay he was headed for the wall of the building and the truck wasn't stopping. I was telling him to push the clutch in but, that did little good. Junior was headed for the wall, in first gear and about to show that wall what a Cummins can do to it while in grunt. I pulled the shifter into neutral. All I can say is, "wash your truck yourself". If I hadn't been with him the damage would have been significant and I'd probably be up for a murder one charge.

I always threaten the tire guys with death if they blip the throttle, ride the clutch, or try to reverse in 5th gear...

I have always been able to drive it into AND out of any shop I've been to!

For that do not know about the problem, going from 1st to 2nd the linkage would fail to move the first/rev gear lever out of first and still let move the second/third lever into 2nd. You had to open the hood and move the first gear lever by hand.

You need a new shift tube on the chevy its in the steering collum it will shift right after that common problem

Hilarious....I am originally from the Netherlands and when taking your drivers test, if you take and pass your test in a car with automatic transmission you are not allowed to drive a car with manual transmission. Needless to say that 99% of the students take the test in a manual transmission car.

almost to the point in this country where you can't buy a vehicle with an manual transmission, even the class 8 stuff is going to automated transmissions.

Driving a manual transmission is certainly becoming an uncommon skill.
I just don't see the fun in a Manual...too much work. I have had left knee surgery, spinal cord surgery, a hernia... even when I owned a 69 formula 400 firebird with a 4speed I threw my back out. Had to crawl to my apartment..Now we have the Cummins with the aisin. 385 ho and 900 lb. ft of torque. I don't see any advantage of the stick except for maintaining the auto..I have had a ton of stick cars.... Love the auto much better..... stick cars I've owned, 55 2drhrdtop, 55nomad, 80 pinto, 78 celica, Saturn sky redline, BMW X5, 78 chevy pickup, 2004 ram Cummins,2010 srt8 challenger, 79 trans am Pontiac 400, exps.. bronco Ii, and others... sold the challenger cause it was a stick...like I said,,, I hate shifting..lol

'Nuthin' sounds better than a big truck, with an old 3406B cat, with a set of mellow 6" stacks, accelerating through an intersection. But when an automatic trash truck "automatics" through the same intersection, it is like yuk:)

Did you have the service manager, dealer manager, or owner of the dealer ship come smell the cooked clutch? I would have asked for them to put in writing, attach to your drive train warranty info/mileage of the incident. Ignorance & disrespect should not be tolerated. I'm a public educator, I preach this daily. Off my soapbox now. Wife & I drove VW bugs when kids. Still drive my restored '72 Superbeetle, my only & 1st-one.

I agree.

I bought ram because it was the only full size truck that offered a manual transmission.

I'd laugh if they replaced the Aisin/68RFE shift lever with a push button with a toggle on it.

I like that....you truly do not know "how" to drive until you can handle a manual.

Brian:

Oh ya....I have already decided that while at any dealership or auto mechanic's shop, I will always tell them "No Wash"......don't need the needless damage that will be inflicted on the truck.
