I burnt my stock clutch today. I put a post up about a week ago and everyone said south bend. Then talk to other people and they said not to because of them not being street friendly. I farm for a living so there is a lot a pedal pushing in a day. I was told luk gold would be good, center force this one guy said was the best and cheapest. I want one that will hold up to light sled pulling and handle 500+ hp. and be easy on the pedal

Sure a LOT of them used daily on the "street" and pulling a WIDE array of RV's... ;)



Maybe the folks talking against South Bend sell the LUK? :D
 
I had friends that said the same thing. I will tell you im very happy with my SBC CON OFE, it has smoother peddle effort then stock. Holds my 363hp and 862 tq. just fine im confident the ceterforce wouldnt do that. As far as LUK go, I wouldnt run one of those TURDS in my off road rig. they shouldnt be called LUK they should be called GOOD LUK cause your going to need it.
 
My SBC Con FE has great feel to it, I don't think it's any more pressure than my stocker was. The only problem is it can be a little grabby backing a big trailer up an incline. The OFE is more forgiving I hear but doesnt hold as much power.



Think I might get the 2 wheel low kit, hopefully it will help with the backing. At any rate the FE is fantastic for 99% of my needs, I can live with the grabby backing but you may not since you do it more than me.
 
Peter at South Bend Clutch has WAAAYY too good a reputation in these forums for me to think that his products won't do a given job. As you know, he sells a wide range of clutches. I'm sure that many of them are not suitable for normal street driving. I'm equally sure that many of them are made just for that.



When I need a new clutch, I'll buy it from South Bend Clutch. (Admittedly, I'm a lot closer to them than you are. )



I'm sure Peter can recommend a clutch for your application that you'll be happy with.

thanks for the help. but should I go with a single or double disk for what I want to do with it. As far as sled pulling I will need the double right even if I pull just once or twice a year.
 
Do yourself a favor - asking questions in this group will often get you 10 different answers from 10 different folks - we all mean well, but frequently our replies are based upon a very limited exposure to the topic under discusssion.



Whatever clutch brand you think is best for your application, CALL that outfit, carefully explain your needs, and let THEM steer you towards whet they know will do the job - they see this stuff every day - guys like me may have only seen a half dozen! ;)



This is where SBC shines, by the way - they will be happy to take time to actually talk to you on the phone and discuss what YOU personally are most likely to be happy with and get good service from!

Have you looked at LuK's new Pro-Gold with the Cerametallic button disc? Don't know if it's out yet, but it's supposed to be as good as the SBC at a better price.
 
Ceramic/metal buttons have the potential to hold well - but will most likely greatly accellerate wear on the flywheel/pressure plate surface - see, 10 posts, 10 answers! ;) :D
