That's right. :( Looks like I may have toasted #6. Pullen a 6% grade with my 15k 5er in tow. A hill that I've pulled many, many times before. 145,000 on the clock. I always pull by my pyro gauge, between 1250 and 1350. Never over 1350. Try to hold it at 1300. Can't believe it man:{ :{ :{ . I pulled the injectors to see if there was any aluminum chips/dust on the tips and they looked clean. There was some motor oil on the tips of #5 & #6. Tomorrow night we're going to pull the head and see how much damage we have. The only unusual thing that I noticed before it went south was my water temp was up to 215, the fan kicked in and it didn’t cool off like it normally does. I’ll keep you guys posted. See pics. #ad

Yeah, headgasket. ETHs have REAL high cylinder pressure when you tow with any box that ADVANCES timing, like all Edge products. I was towing a big fiver in upstate NY and blew my headgasket. An Edge EZ stacked with a Banks Ottomind.

Boom.

I wonder if anyone could make a box for us 98. 5 to 2002 24 valvers that advances timing up to about 40 mph then turns off leaving the ECM to do the timing chores but will continue to add fuel.

Does a Comp turn off timing when you turn the box off?

Sorry about your luck on the engine! Hopefully it is "just" the headgasket.

TJ,

My understanding, as a Comp owner, is that when the Comp is off, the only thing it's doing is boost fooling.

HTH.

Duane

With the COMP off it should only be acting as a "boost fooler" is what I remember.

Sorry to hear of your luck, got my fingers crossed its a headgasket!

You better get it fixed before May ;)

Oh bummer! Keep us posted and hoping for the head gasket. I just received my DD TTPM for my ETH cautioning for the less agressive timing.

Wonder what gear, speed and RPM you were operating at - your EGT is higher than I would want to run my truck pulling for any length of time - mighta been a factor - as was the coolent temp. Our load is only about half yours, and we take Sierra grades at about 65 MPH in OD, usually right around 1900 RPM - with the Comp on 5x5 - only casualty so far is a slipping clutch... My boost in those grades is right at 33 PSI, EGT 1200, and fuel PSI about 15 PSI, coolent temp only slightly higher than normal regardless of typical summer California temps - fan sometimes kicks in on hotter days or longer grades, but temp immeditely falls back down and fan cuts out - mine has what is referred to as the heavy-duty cooling system as I recall, and has both towing and camper options...

sorry man but i guese it happens i cooked mine 3 weeks ago have yet to tare it down dos yours nock when its sittin there idlin?

Thanks for the offer Gary. We'er pullen the head tonight and we will know a lot more by 7:00 PM. Keep your fingers crossed it's just a head gasket.

PWR Stroke Poundr

I bought the high performance pistons your'e talking about, the same ones Schied's runs in competition. They're forged and hard anodized. No more EGT worries!

Brian

Pistons aren't the ONLY things that suffer from excessive EGT - valves/seats, heads and gaskets, exhaust manifolds and turbo are all vulnerable...
