bought the truck 90 days ago and the night i brought it home the light switch assy. melted down. I towed the truck to Inline performance and todd is putting a corrective harness for a second gen in it Italked to todd today and bad news :( the ground for the switch case melted and went into the harness and really wreaked havoc on the harness I love the truck but we are having relationship problems now :-{} any body know how much fun this is going to be to fix? thanks guys sorry for the lengthiness CLINT HALL

Clint,

First, dont apologize for being lengthy. We need the info to be able to help. And that post was short.

Second, it is ok- you just have to get in there and get intimate with the wiring under the dash (actually, take out your instrument bezel/ cover thingie- some are wood grain, other black plastic). I've had to do the same thing twice- Mom's and my current 92. Just make sure you match the colors from the dash and the wiring harness, use solder and shrink wrap, and take your time to get it right.

Third, put a relay in the circuit for the tail lights. I think it is a black with a blue tracer (good size, regardless of colors), but dont quote me on it. Maybe someone with a FSM can scan a diagram and put it on here.

If you just have burnt insulation on some of those wires, the brush on electrical goo might be your best friend here. Liquid electrical tape, yellow can, you can find it in a variety of places in the electrical departments. Just make sure to separate the wires well and brush the stuff on. Be liberal and I would tape the area well after the stuff dries. It should be waterproof and everything. The harness isn't all that bad once you look at it.

I second the relay recommendation, Headlights, and trailer lights too.

Especially compared to a newer vehicle these beasts are pretty straightforward. Dig in, get intimate with the truck, and you'll get hooked like the rest of us. ;)

the harness we are putting in there is the factory corrective harness for a second gen. they were recalled because when towing a trailer it would burn out my 96 actually cought on fire but anyway the kit has a built in relay in it already. tod told me the wires were burnt down to bare wire and that might explain some of our problem with the with the truck not starting and then when it does it just dies tod told me if it didnt burn any further than that we are in pretty good shape but the way my luck has been going with this thing if it can go wrong it will oh well S#!+ happens and the only thing i can do is just fix and move on foward. THANKS GUYS Clint
