Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender

Anyone using these? How far out do they go? I have seen different specs on the net from 1. 5 to 2. 25". I need at least 2. 25". If they don't go out that far then I guess I will go to the Pocket flares. Any info is appreciated.

I had the pocket style Bushwackers. I don't know if the extend-a-fender mounts up the same way but I'm fairly certain they do. I have made it my personal mission to talk people out of these flares. They will DESTROY the paint underneath them. Mine wore through to the metal in less than 4 months. Just my opinion, but I would look at another brand of fender flares. .

I doubt any other brand would be any kinder to the paint. It's been my (albeit limited) experience that anything in direct contact with a painted body panel will, over time, remove all the paint at the contact points.



Maybe the best thing to do is use flares that require you cut the stock fender?

Wait, I just had an idea. What if you had a thin strip of Line-x laid down where the fenders mount before mounting them up? That would eliminate any paint issues!!

I think the Line-X would work, I've been hoping someone would try it for a while now. . I'm fairly certain that other brands of flares like Xenon attach to the truck with 2 sided tape. If so, the paint should be able to handle it. At any rate, there is no way I'd put Bushwackers on. .

I have checked 3 different forms and all say no to the bushwackers. Xenon and ATS got good reviews as they use two sided tape between the flare and the paint to keep dirt out and stop the paint from getting vibrated off. I will give ATS and Xenon a call tomorrow and see what they have to say about their product. I am going to also call bushwacker and let them know what the dodge owners think of their product and see if they have a fix. I think that the bushwacker is more durable than the others so it would be nice to get them to work. Maybe a bead of silicone around the edge to attach them to the truck to stop the rubbing. Anyone try that???

I just installed the extend a fender on my 05 but first I purchested some 3M clear bra that was . 014" by 6" and cut it in 3/4" strips and put it on the body first to protect the paint. I had a 99 that had flares that had two sided tape on them and they still rubbed the paint off because plastic expands and contracts with the temperature. One more thing is that they are had to get off to clean behind and the bushwackers are very easy to remove.
