PARTING OUT 08 DODGE RAM 3500 DUALLY

interesting. wonder what event caused the guy to do that. also wonder if he will come out ahead $ wise. might be worth more as parts. had a neighbor part out his entire car - mitsubishi gt3000? turbo and claimed he made more than simply selling the car.

The truck was totaled by an insurance company and given a CD Title(Certificate of Destruction). The truck MUST be parted out. The folks that are parting out the truck are in the salvage business.

I do not know the people or the company. I posted this as information for the TDR members.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow to see if I can't get my damned fuel fitting. I really wish the shop that installed my airdog hadn't thrown it out.

It pulls up just fine for me. :)

I called and they won't take any parts off the engine - not even the fuel filter assembly. Oh well.

Cosmo, what fitting are you looking for???

I just sent a 6. 7 core out of a bus back to Cummins last week, didn't realize you were looking for something.

Is it something that could be bought from Cummins???

Let me know, maybe I will get another chance at a core.....

Mike. :)

I don't think it was a scam, I called the number and actually spoke to the guy. I can understand not wanting to pull parts off an engine when they're trying to sell it in running condition with a warranty...

I went to Dodge... they want $115 (employee cost) for the fitting plus the hose it plugs into.

I went to a Cummins dealer, showed the parts guy the piece - "what the heck is that??"

I went to a local shop that rebuilds injection pumps - "what the heckis that??"

I went to auto parts stores - "that's M12 x 1. 50, the only hose fittings we have are all NPT"

I called the diesel performance shop that installed my Airdog and threw away the fitting I now currently need... they had no idea what I was talking about. Somehow. I really don't understand how they removed the stock fitting and replaced it with a 1/2" hose fitting a year and a half ago and now they don't know what I'm talking about.

I called a local diesel performance shop, again no idea what I was talking about.

It's the inlet fitting on the CP3. It's a 3/8" quick disconnect steel fitting with M12x1. 5 threads and an o-ring to seal it.

Tonight I traded some labor with my neighbor and he made one for me on his lathe out of hex bar stock. I'll see if it works in the morning.

Well, did a little digging this morning.

It appears that Dodge adds that fitting when they build the truck, engine ships from Cummins without that and lets the OEM design the fuel inlet plumbing. It makes sense once you think about it.

I checked some 6. 7's in Freightliner Trucks to see what we use. I can find the M12 X 1. 5 thread fittings for the CP3 but they mate to 5/8 plastic (Feed) and 1/2 plastic (Return) line in our applications.

If the one that you made up doesn't work out let me know. I can contact Freightliner and get a fitting chart, possibly would be one available if there is an application for it.

Parker might the manufacturer once you get through all the smoke and mirrors.

Can't do it this week as 99% of the FTL engineers and tech folk are on Holiday shutdown.

Don't hesitate to ask, I will give it my best shot.

Mike. :)

The one we made last night worked fine, but not with the quick disconnect hose - had to use 3/8" fuel hose and a couple of hose clamps. It seems the CP3 side gets a 5/16" quick disconnect and the filter housing gets the 3/8" fitting.

Odd.

Oh, and the plastic hose between the two was stamped with a manufacturer, I think it started with an A and it definitely said it was made in Great Britain.

The guy buying my truck came in today and drove it, seems like it's a go. He has to sell his first, which may or may not happen tomorrow, but the buyer on his truck said he needs it by Monday. My truck should hopefully be gone by tues/wednesday, and then I can start shopping for a 24-valve 4x4 3500 quad cab with a manual trans.

Had I stopped to look at the numbers prior to buying my current truck, there's no way I'd have gone with a 2500... what the heck is the point of a truck with less than a ton of payload capacity?

No value. Its not even a Cummins TD.

The seller says its one of those "cummings" engines manufactured when "Furd owned Cummings. "
