Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Busted mainshaft in an NV4500

How many here have either heard of this or have had it happen to them?

I busted mine today.

Just curious because I'd never heard of the mainshaft breaking. Usally it's the input shaft that lets go.



Anybody got a 6 speed for sale?

Had one in the shop a few months ago. When it broke only had 1st 5th and reverse. This truck had a # 10 plate but is heavily load all the time.

I broke mine with a gooseneck load of hay and leaving truck on cruse in mountains :--) I then got rid of some bombs cause I just can't resist the right foot.



I thought about switching to a 6 speed but was in a hurry and needed my truck. But I wish I would have taken the time to change it over.



My advice is Change it to a 6 speed.

if everything else is fine i would just put in a fully splined mainshaft and forget it.

Yup I've got a fully splined shaft on the way.

Just could't afford the 6 speed right now :{

Something catastrophically failed in my trans Monday night, most practical thing to do right now was just get a brand new trans through dodge for $2800... I couldn't swing for a quad4x4 one right now

What ever you do, DON'T get it from Dodge!! I HATE the Dodge house! They charge $5. 00 for 1 fuse! I didn't buy it.
