Very good points brought up here! There is a steady stream of comment on this site by folks who decry all dealers as" stealers ", and with their next breath, tell you how they pulled the box off in hopes of defrauding the dealer. If you cheat, your a cheater, if you lie, your a liar. Doesn't matter if a computor program will catch you or not. You are a cheater and a liar even if no one ever finds you out. And you know it, the problem is that some folks don't care.

I hope they catch all of those dishonest S. O B's and throw them so far into the jail that they have to use a cannon to shoot a bean to them!!

I don't have any potentialy damaging BOMBs on my truck YET. But when I do, you bet I will pull the box before service. I DO NOT belive in screwing the next hard working guy, so I don't agree with setting back an odometer. But getting DC to do some warranty work is a whole different story to me. You can count on DC to usually try their hardest to wiggle out of ANY warranty work. DC doesn't give us a break on the price of the truck so why should we give them a break on the warranty WE payed for. And the "stealer" would love nothing more than to take me for every penny I have when I go to trade in a vehicle (according to them it's in the name of convience for not having to sell the vehicle myself) what a joke. JMHO

There was a dealer in Vermont that got busted about a year ago. They suspect he rolled back the odometers on hundreds of vehicles. The punishment? A very small fine and some community service time. He didn't even have to shut down his dealership.

My original post was for "informational purposes only". I did not mean to raise anyone's blood pressure.

There are however some very interesting questions that have been raised. We have raised a dishonorable generation.

First we took the King of Honor out of our schools.

Then we took the Word of Honor out of our schools.

Next went Prayer.

This all left a void that we tried to fill with condoms.

We now are reaping the harvest of what has been sown... ...

JPLB22,

You are then, by your own definition, a "selective" liar and cheater, when you find it in your best interest. Selective morality is so convienient isn't it?

If I was a selective liar and cheater when it was in my own best intrest, than I wouldn't have a problem rolling back my odometer than, would I. I guess pulling off a box before service brings a persons entire moral standpoint in to quetion. (just joking) LOL

I'm just saying that I treat people the same way they treat me. And I would be quite suprised if you had never in your life lied or cheated or used any means to put yourself a little ahead of the game.

I was not trying to disagree with you in my first post, only giving my opinion. I think that if people all tried to live a higher standard than things would be better in this world. But don't hold your breath. And I don't think all dealers are "stealers". I was only speaking of the last 2 out of 5 car deals I've had. The other were quite pleasant.

I to agree with Mr. Millet's quote "Be sure your sins will find you out!"

I try not to do anything in my life that would be embarrassing if the entire world found out (removing an EZ before routine maintanence would not be embarrassing to me). I guess to be honest, I would say that I would have an attack of morality if I knew for a fact that the EZ was a direct cause of a problem. At which point I would go to a good repair shop and upgrade what ever the box destroyed. But if there was any other possible cause I would pull the EZ before taking the truck to the dealer.

In my first post I was refering to routine maintanence.

Removing bombs from your truck is not illegal, but may be deceptive. Changing the odometer is illegal. When you sell a vehicle, you sign and note the milage on the title, which is then notorized. It is criminal, and he should be treated as such. It's the same as steeling money from anyone who buys the truck.

Ah, but installing them is... ... . unless, they are certified for emissions compliance. Not sure how many of our bombs are certified - I think the VA CPC is and some of Banks stuff might be.

it must happen all the time

Before I bought my 99 I found a super clean 96 1 ton @ a small independent dealer. Odometer read approx. 46K. Ran good, looked good, I bought it. 3 days later to the Dodge dealer for a check on any recalls. Oops! Service rep. sez the truck was dealer service 30 days before and had 248K miles. Back it goes for a refund and a complaint with Calif. DMV. DMV rep. said most used car dealers have approx. 10% rollbacks on the lot. Buyer BEWARE!

Cheaters, stealers, liars, it all comes out in the wash. These are the same people who try to get even with the insurance co's. , cheat uncle sam out of taxes, and try to get ahead of others by stepping on heads thinking they are special and have the right to do it.

Do these people sleep well at night knowing the people they hurt is you and me? We are the ones the buck gets passed to, I think this falls under the " do unto others" line that is taught to us as a kid wether you are religous or not. We're all in this togeather folks, you can run but you can't hide, for long.

Running away, you can't run from yourself.

how 'bout this....

If we are talking about ethics and morality, I think this goes along the same lines as using red fuel in our trucks. I hate taxes just as much as the next guy, but those taxes go for our roads. ( or lack thereof sometimes) If your using red fuel than I am the one picking up your tab to ride on OUR roads. Oh well off of my completely off topic soap box.

Right-ON... ...

and lets go after those criminals who rip the tags off of pillows and mattresses too... ... .....

Just tryin' to lighten things up a little. ;)

And then there is my favorite whopper after going fishing and not catching anything. I usually say I caught one but had to let it go. It was only eight inches long... ..... between the eyes. :D:D:D
