Competition Where has he been ?

Well, after over a year of looking at the chargers I finally got around to plumbing everything in this weekend with the help of my brother. All the hard work is done and now its just a mater of doing some paint work but thats all good. Here are a few pics of what I did.

My brother works as a metal fabricator and he was able to make us both a set of a really cool transition piece for plumbing the 4" shedual 40 to the flange on the large turbo. He actually did it in the brake press with a bunch of different tiny bends. In less than 3" it goes from a 4" round circle to the size of the turbo flange of 3"x1/3/4". I was pretty impressed with how it turned out. I then just welded studs right to it so its easy to drop the gasket on and then drop the turbo on and bolt it all down.

And here is the setup in the truck. Turned out nice and now I just have to get the 6" hole saw out to cut the hole in the pretty cowl hood:eek:

Really nice work Ryan, I think that pipe/turbo adapter would sell like hot cakes but I also know there is allot of time in it. BOTW, that is a perfect transison and should cause no turbulence.

Very nice, make sure don't walk the big hole saw across the whole hood :D

Scott- Trust me I have thought of this so what I am doing today when I am in the shop (I am a cabinet maker) is using the 6" hole saw I just bought and drilling a hole in a piece of 3/4" baltic birch plywood and also drilling the holes for my trim ring in it. Then I am actually going to bolt it down to the hood before I even drill the hole. What thats going to do is act like 3/4" of already drilled material and it will be a perfect cut... hopefully.

Jim- Thanks!!! We were actually thinking of maybe a few more of the transition pieces and letting a selected few try them out. There is actually alot of math/figuring to do before you even gett the steel cut or to the brake press but the final product is awsome.

What are most guys doing for where the 4" hot pipe enters the charger?

Scott & Jim- Thanks to you two guys for all the help... you two answered more of my questions about the whole build than anyone else!!!

NP, that is what we are here for!

Most people just egg the pipe to fit the flange and make it were you can weld it up on the outside, and not worry about the over hang on the inside. Some will split the pipe with a cutoff tool and trim away pipe to make the transision.

Jim

Awesome fab work, I know there is a ton of time into it. However, it is all worth it as people are staring at the finished product and ask... who built your twins? (nice quiet pause) I did... . :D

Can't wait to see the pic of smoke rollin' out the stack!

Here is a pic of the one PDR folks made me from a solid piece of medal and a milling machine.

Ryan, just exstend the pilot out some and don't apply much pressure you will be okay.

Scott-that is a nice piece from PDR. My turbo must have been a bit different than most because it just had the one big port and not two smaller ones. Thats why I went with the large single opening. The one we cut and built for my brothers setup has the two ports but his is only an HT3B.

Update- This morning when no one was around to bug me I thought it was the perfect time to cut the hole in the hood and also get the stack figured out. I landed up tapeing the hood to prevent any chipping then I used my wooden template for my trim ring and drilled the 8 holes for it that hold everything together once done. I then was able to start drilling with the 6" hole saw and knew the angle was right (my hood and stack arn't on a 90 to each other as the hood slopes down to the side about 1/4") I then took my time drilling and the ender result was amazing!!!

On to the stack... my budy gave me a 6" stack that was used to chop a piece off so I wrapped it in tape and went to my local shop that has a nice sharp steel bandsaw that can do 45's. Again... turned out amazing and didn't chip the chrome at all! I figued it might.

I snapped a few pics of it now and am still waiting on my trim ring to come back from being cut on the plasma but other than that its comming along quite wellOo.

I'm not a fan of stacks through the hood, but that setup looks nice! Can't wait to see pics of the truck making thick clouds of smoke through that stack.

I was thinking just after cutting the hole that I should have put a matching one on the drivers side... . Just to make it look like maybe there is a 6. 2 still under the hood:-laf:-laf:-laf
