CHeck the build date. If it was built in late November through December'06, It will have the AE ratio 6 spd.

My Dec. '06 build '07 has been a great truck. I traded up from a '01. 5 2wd with the auto. The G56 is a good trans. Don't expect much extra out of the clutch if you add power. Mine held 15,000 mi with 70hp setting on a Smarty jr but now I am back to the 40hp setting because it started to slip. Southbend Double Disc 3250 is coming!

Overall, I have never regretted the '07, 5. 9 over my '01. 5

Crawl under the truck if the build date is close and look for this. Don't go by the METAL plate on the side of the trans, look for the white tape with the bar code. Look for the "AE" at the end of the number. If it reads "AD", then it is the . 79 ratio.

I DONT GET THIS, IS ONE RATIO MORE DESIRABLE, DEPENDABLE ETC THAN THE OTHER. SOMEONE PLEASE ELABORATE

I wouldn't worry much about the final drive ratio. I've just gone to a slightly bigger tire and the lower geared final ratio is working out well for me. It might just save this clutch too. If it's a nice truck buy it.

Mark, The only difference between early '06 built and late '06 built trucks is the taller 6th gear. Early has a . 79 ratio 6th and the later is a . 73 i believe. Neither are more or less dependable than the other. The taller ratio just "sweetens" the deal. Chris

The only thing wrong with the 6. 7 is the DPF and EGR. Ditch the DPF and block off the EGR and its likely a bigger-displacement 5. 9. Cant wait til I get a 6. 7...

Its amazing it takes these dealers so long to get serious. I was looking at a truck in pa, 06 laramie dually six speed 4 x 4, just like I want, low mileage (32000) but it was at 30000. They really didnt want to deal so I kept looking. They call me today, I tell them I got a deal in texas, not interested. She says whats the deal, I tell her 28500, same truck but 07 slt, she asked if

I would buy hers for 26500. THE DEAL IS DONE, I AINT CHANGING MY MIND UNLESS SOMEONE GETS ON HERE AND TELLS ME THE 06 IS JUNK. MY WIFES GETTING ME A PLANE TICKET AS I TYPE, THANKS FOR THE INPUT ALL, YOU ALL THINK I GOT A GOOD DEAL?

The only other thing I would check on this '06 in PA. is that the diffs are 3. 73 and not 4. 10's. Call them back and make them check it out. My other $0. 02:-laf

It has 3. 73 gears, same as the texas truck. Yea it may have more corrision but it looks really clean, i had her email me about 30 pics, i know from pics you cant see everything. I think its less of a chance that the moter has been dusted being from out east vs the south. How much is the laramie package worth over the slt, anyone know. im guessing around 4000. 00. I am always nervous about buying a used truck, regardless im on a plane at 6 in the morning.

Found out that the one i"m dealing on has the 3:73 ratio, prefer this to the 4:10 cause i"m not hauling heavy all the time.

DWeiler

the 3. 73 with G56 is = to the old NV4500 NV4600 and a 4. 10

2000 RPM is about 62 in G56 with 3. 73, I tow 26K all the time with no issues other then starting on steep hills in downtown seattle. But I don't think it would really matter them are steep hills.

The 4. 10 in a G56 is way overkill Personally.

Mark

Sounds like a great deal on the truck go for it.

fuel mileage sucks, love the truck anyway

Just got home with the 06, what a drive, 27 hrs round trip from the Quad Cities to Baltimore and back. The truck was a pleasure to drive back home. It steers and stops so much better than my 01 or 02. It was pretty close to the dealers description, a couple of small dents in the floor of the bed is really my only complaint, I will take care of that with a hammer and a spray in bedliner. On my test drive I smelled coolant, when I got back to the dealership I crawled under the truck, the coolant line by the turbo where a couple of lines come together was leaking, he tightened the clamps and that fixed it. It also had a burned out taillight and was missing a blinker bulb in the left front. My first thought is oh sh@t, I am going to have an electical issue with this truck. Almost 800 miles back home thru some wet, snowy and cold weather with no issues. Running between 72 - 75 mph, below freezing weather, winter blend fuel, and about 3 hrs in 4 wheel drive and almost all interstate it averaged 13. 9 mpg coming home. The best I got on any tank was 14. 3. I think this sucks, my 95 got 18 -20, the 01 and the 02 gets 14 - 16. Maybe this is why it was traded, I bet its lower than the average. Well I got almost 6000 to spend on goodies, umm what first.

CongratesOo. Oo. Oo. ,just came back from my 600 miles trip through the rockies(Vancouver BC to Calgary AB)with my new to me 2007. The truck is mint,a few rock chips on the fenders but no dents, spent about 1/2 hour checking everything over in the rain---no leaks/runs smooth. Heck of a difference compared to my 2001. We hit heavy rain then about 8 inches of snow covered highway 1/2 way back---put her in 4hi and cruised at 55MPH most of the way home----20MPG hand calculated for this trip---which is about what my 01 gets average. Lots of over-turned semi's in the ditches as well as a dozen cars, six feet of snow at the summit. Hit some pretty steep grades at first and it never even down shifted---pulls hard/smooth ride---and very quiet compared to the 01. I think i scored a good/fair deal. I happy that the MRS can drive this one too, cause my 6er in the 01 was not ment for her.

Seldom needs to downshift on any freeway type mountain passes if you don't have to slow for traffic and are carrying no more than 1000 lbs.

Over last two years I've about a dozen crossings of most western mountain ranges.

Takes long steep grade, warm weather pull to even get the fan clutch to kick in.
