Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Buying 95 dodge diesel with 30,000 miles

The only drawback I see Its a automatic trans, I will half to get use to It I guess. Its a 12 valve I am told. What should I do to It beside change the oil and I use Rotella 15W40 In all my diesel engines, Fuel filter, air filter and change the filter and oil In the transmission adjust the bands, check the U joints front and rear. I will have a state Inspection and a good one which I will be there. I will have the front end line up also. Now Is where I am lost about jacking up the power,This Is where you guys come IN. I want to make this a sweet runner and good on fuel. I have some nice pictures but don't know how to post them. From what I gather big power and stock auto-transmissions are rarely found in the same truck, at least not for long. First, the fact that you found a 95 with 30 k is something good. Out of curiosity, are they original miles?

best way to check is to get under the front end to look for wear and tear. If it is in good shape then chances are it is a great find. Hey, even if it is like mine with 225,ooomiles, it is a great truck. I wouldn't trade mine for a 24v.

You're stock trans will hold probably 220hp at best (if your lucky). So you'll have to updated the trans regardless of how much power you put thru it.



The power part is easy. Free up the exhaust (straight pipe or 4") and intake (BHAF or AFE), get a fuel plate over your choice, some bigger injectors, a turbo, maybe a GSK, gauges, and a few other things and your set.

I got lucky and two years ago in 03 i found my truck. It is a 96 and it only had 19,000 original miles on it when i bought it. It has 70,000 miles on it now though. One of the best buys i ever made. I think it was around 30K or 40K miles when i had to replace my front u-joints. Good luck with your new truck. If you're like me it wont take you long to get the bombing bug.

Sounds good to me, I'm looking at a 95 auto (I know, auto... yuc) with 302,000 and 70,000 on the slush box rebuild. It's a great truck, I just sold my 01 to get far, far, far away from the VP-44 and lift pumps.

Has the KDP been done? That is important for peace of mind, if nothing else. I have a #5 plate in mine and it does pretty well. I still need the 3K spring kit and lose the CAT. The 95 runs pretty well if you do a small amount of work on it. For free you can slide plate forward, lose the CAT, set timing and AFC spring,,,costs little or nothing, if you have gear for timinig! Do you have gauges yet? GET THEM!

I bought my 95 with 78k in November 2003. Within the first 300 miles of ownership, the pos factory transmission cooler line let loose and killed the transmission. I coughed up the money and upgraded the trans. Other than the transmission and cooler line and the TPS, I have not had to replace anything I didn't want to. If the price is right, buy it now. The 160 pump can push more fuel than the WH1C can cool. With my mods I can bury the pyro. Good luck and happy BOMBing.

We are picking up the motor home next week. They and we are to busy this week so we both agreed for next week which Is better for both of us. I do plan tp beef the engine. I will keep It In the garage with my other toys and I got to many my wife says. She keeps screaming sell sell. Glad I am hard of hearing. I got 4 model T's, 4 Model A's, 33 ford, 55 Chevy, 2005 Chrysler 300 Hemi,2005 Colbat, 2004 Dodge dually,now a 1995 Dodge diesel Motormome. My wife does a good job keeping them clean up and polished. My two garages are full now. Nothing sits out. I got her the Colbat for Christmas and we love It. We drive It most of the time.

That's right... well this 94' i picked up had 75k miles on it in February. It sat on the dealers' lot for almost a year and the carfax only reported it to have 50k miles by the year 2000. SO I had to replace almost all the seals in the drive train, and alot of rotted out front suspension parts {ball joints,shocks etc} from sitting so long. So be aware there's also drawbacks to a low mileage truck that is older

Well I got the motor home home and In then garage. I took It to the Chrysler Garage and they Inspected It thoroughly and check the history that the previous owner had It service at a Chrysler dealer regularly. It Is spotless. They never wore shoes In the motor home. It looks brand new. Now the tires do have some weather cracks so I am replacing them with 10 ply and putting air bags on the rear. I have a new set of Rancho air shocks that I am also putting on front and rear. I wash It yesterday and back It In the garage. I am very happy with It as If It was new. Now where shall we go on our first adventure?????

I have spent enough money on manual trannies. I would be happy to have the auto. Plan on putting some money into it and plan on being pretty fast if you do that and the engine right.
