thanks guys ! I own a 92 ctd 2wheel drive < I like the 12 valve ! but I want a 4x4 ,5 speed! so I might as well get a p pump motor , right ?

I know 98 is the best but $$$$$$$ my ???? are there any problems with a 96 or 97 ctd < that I should be informed about ??? thanks loco one out !!

Ck for oil leaks at front of motor=kdp

Ck all steering parts for looseness=balljoints track bar,steering box,tierods

ck for wet floors=rear cab lite gaskes,windshield leak,ac drain plugged

ck rear axle seal for leaks at drums=new seals

Rot on botton of door seam=new doors

leaky plastic radiator tank= new rad

rotted brake lines near fuel tank=run new line

fuel gauge working?=drop tank or remove bed

hard starts=cracked fuel return line

ac cold=evaporator

brakes?

these are just some of the many supprises i found on my 96.

These trucks are a pain in the a. . but they are still one of the easest and cheapest to operate and Its a fun truck to drive the fuel milage is a plus at 16-18 mpg around town

If it has a Gooseneck ball in the bed, it may have been used by a freight company. Those guys overload the heck out of em, all the time!! Be careful.

96 has the vacuum brake booster. 97 began use of the hydroboost (power steering fluid). A lot of Texas trucks were heavily loaded and/or used to tow heavy trailers often, most have high miles. Check it out.
 
While you are checking that stuff, ask for recipts for transmission work... like when 5th gear came loose, and who fixed it. (I just lost my 5th gear)



Starter relay should be checked.



Starter solenoid should be checked.



How about front wheel death wobble after hitting bump.
