2006 Seats suck, Blend-door brakes , dealer covered both under warrenty more than once for me... 35,000 miles. .

well my 06 gets fantastic fuel mileage worst i ever got was around 15 around town on the road on the hwy at 50 around 27 or higher ,,actual not computer ! at 90 mph drove to baton rouge la from palm beach and got 20-21 unreal ! but never pulled a trailer , has lockup computer for tow = haul mode

still, is the same transmission in the 2003 model and the 2006 model? was the transmission improved when they moved from 250hp in 2003 to 315 in 2006?

It depends on when the 2003 was built what trans it has. The 48RE went into production Jan 03, prior to that it was the 47RE. If the 03 was built on or after Jan 03, SO or HO, it has the same transmission as an 06 with a few differences. The trans model is the improvement not the power levels of the engine.

IIRC, the 48RE has a heavier TC with some better parts and more clutch surface, direct clutches upgrade by 1, OD clutches upgraded by 1, steel cages on the pinons front and rear, pump flows 20% more fluid, and a redesigned heavier input shaft with better sealing capability in problem areas.

There were a few internal changes to a couple of thrust washers and oiling ports to adjust for a potential problem, the 06 has a TTVA motor that controls TV pressure instead of the TV cable.

So am i right about the horsepower increasing from 250hp in 03 to 315 in 2006 ?

and while adding the extra horses there were no signifigant transmission upgrades. there is little wonder that the 06 has transmission issues!

Partially correct...

They offered both the Cali-version (250HP) and the "HO" which was 305HP/555TQ in 03/early 04. In 04. 5, they went to just the 325HP/600TQ (the "600 Cummins") which was 48-state compliant, and that was later increased (via programming) to 325HP/610HP.

The 47RE was offer behind mostly 250HP trucks, but there were a few 305/555s that reportedly slipped through with the 47RE also (based on discussions on this forum a few years back)... most of the "HO" engines got the 48RE.

2003 also offered a 235/460 version that was "cali" certified.

The 250hp motor also offered 460 ft/lbs.

In 2005 the Cummins 600 was bumper to 610 ft/lbs to stay ahead of the dmax 605 rating.

The Cummins 600 was a 50 state motor, and since 04. 5 Dodge has only offered 1 tune/motor for the pickups on the 5. 9, and the 6. 7 has had the same hp, but different tq for the manuals vs auto's.

New Trucks

I've been driving a 97 3500 SLt LB drw 5 speed 4wd for the past eleven years I put 110k of the 180k on the truck when I sold it. Ran great with no major problem.

Now I drive an early 07 slt lb qc with 5. 9 GR-56. It is the best hadling, smoothest, quieted, badest truck in it's class that I have ever driven. I love the 5. 9 engines and the GR-56 ****s like already knows what gear I want, I say let your heart lose when your looking at trucks and take the one that feels right.

The dodge series of Deisel Trucks are like wwII Pill Boxes, drop bombs on them all day and they will shake like a dog and keep on pullen'.

Just my $0. 02.
