Just my two cents.
My father owned a CB shop for about 20 years, just closing it last year due to health problems. He sold a lot of Midland's, Cobra's, Presidents, and for the serious CBers he sold the Galaxies. They all worked great, with the Galaxies having more features and power capabilities. I don't have one in my truck yet, so I don't know how the noise is with a diesel engine. But with a gas engine, a noise limiter built into the radio was a must. I personally like the Firestick antennas, but would not drill a hole in my roof either. You can get a quick disconnect if you want to take the antenna off in parking garages or wherever. Not sure what the custom fender mount looks like. Quite a few years back, I actually compared a 3' Firestick to a K 40 antenna. Same vehicle, same mounting location, same radio, the Firestick had a stronger signal both transmitting and receive. Whichever way you go, make sure to have the antenna matched before you start talking. We used to do this for free if you bought the antenna from my father. Radio shack sells inexpensive swr meters if you want to do this yourself. good luck,
Ron
