Here is my thoughts on why I might just keep my '01.

A friend of mine just bought a '03. Even ordered the Edge chip through the dealer, never been a problem before with warranty. Our dealer, if you have a major problem has just removed your box and sent everything in for warranty work.

When his chip showed up he was told he would have to sign a waiver. "Never before have we had to this" his reply was. They in turn said that DC has installed 3 chips in the fueling system that will detect any aftermarket chip. The waiver was for the pumps only along the fuel system. So need less to say he has yet to make up his mind if he wants the chip on there.

So what I was thinking is if I want a newer body style, do I wait till one is over a 100000 in mileage, or just keep Bomb'ing mine? I love my truck so, Bomb away! I really dislike technology

Maybe this should be posted in the 3rd gen forum?

I might be buying a new truck myself.

12-VALVES BABY!!!

Going to look at it tomorrow. :D

96 Club Cab, LWB, 3. 55 LSD, 4x4, 125k, everything but leather, brush guard, nerf bars, slick original paint, 5th gear nut fixed, "turned up" slightly by diesel shop during warranty period, gooseneck hitch, bed caps, tailgate protector, toolbox.

Signed papers this afternoon on new 04. They have a form you sign that say's if you modify the truck your warranty is void:-laf

Well since many of our members have chipped their 03's and have then taken them into the dealer afterwards, I'd have to say any talk of a sensing circuit is most likely B. S.

abledog, the form the dealer made you sign isn't worth squat. The Magnuson-Moss Act prohibits this sort of crap by dealers. If you put an aftermarket exhaust on and your power door locks stop working, they aren't gonna warranty 'em? That's BS. Dealers try this stuff because they hate doing warranty work. It pays less money. They'll try all sorts of lies to convince you your warranty is void and get you to pay. Don't let 'em do it.

Go to these two links and read about your rights when it comes to warranty.

Dealer said they would put the chip on. If they sign the wavier. Our dealer wouldn't BS us, now would they? I have had nothing but great things to say about ours. I have even seen them mentioned in the magazine. Needless to say they know my '01 has a chip on it and they said just disconnect it you run into troubles and need to bring it in here. So how come then does the same mechanic, and service manager say the chips in the 03+ will set a code in the fuel system? He didn't say that DC wouldn't replace the motor if he destroyed it, just the pumps. Thats all the wavier was for.

Don't sign nothing and tell them forget the box. Then buy one elsewhere and plug it in yourself. Just remove it when taking it in and don't say nothing again about a fueling box to them(dealer).

Box

The e-z edge box does not leave a code or a finger print although can be visually seen. The new future programmer from from edge once installed will leave a code,Now if you remove the program the code can be erase, but it will leave a finger print, The question would be what program left the print. At any rate I would tell the dealer keep your box,and would not sign anything but a new purchase agreement on the truck.

He didn't say what the waiver was for. What he said, see above, was the warranty was void.

If I remember correctly the dealer mentioned modifying the exhaust or adding a suspension lift.

I looked through my paper work and I was not given a copy of the form, maybe I will receive it on Monday when I take delivery.

Sounds to me like abledog had best learn all there is to know about the Magnuson-Moss act. This dealer seems like one who will try everything he can to avoid warranty work, including telling lies.

I should (hopefully) be taking delivery of my new 2500 next week. Will report back as to whether or not there is any "form".

i don't remember any kind of form like that... as far as i am conserned, if i alter the exhaust, i void the exhaust's warrenty. if i drill&tap the exhaust manifold, i void the warrenty on that. if i add a fueling box, i void the warrenty on the engine. now, i am still hoping i don't have to go back to the dealer for anything at all [although i need to go there to get the body plugs :(:(]
