Buying a used lift

I have committed to a very good used two post lift for $750. I get to run it through it paces and put my truck on it before I take apart and bring home.

I have the space beside my garage which will be enclosed some day. It is currently dirt with good drainage.

Can I thrown down a footing and put the lift up outside until I have the funds to build around it? I figure the footing will be in the shape of a H .


Any thoughts?

footing would work, but if funds allow consider a pad the about 1 foot wider than the lift on both sides and then length the same to make a square, generally 6 inch depth of concrete is considered good

After wasting untold hrs searching for hardware in the dirt I 2nd the idea of a full pad under any lift placed outdoors.

Mark, the other day I came across the Mohawk manual for the lifts we have. It has very specific specifications for the pad. Personally, I wouldn't mess around. There's even a warning about mixing your own concrete. If you'd like, I can pm a screen shot to you Monday. I've used a few lifts over the years and nothing compares to a Mohawk. Someday when it's my turn, I'm going for the gusto and getting one.

I think I'm going to look for a 4 post, but not completely sure. *I like the 2 so I can get tires off the ground. *

I did read about Crete requirements. *For most 2 posts 3000psi and 4 inches. * Installing looks straight forward. * Everyttime I give up to buy new something used comes along. *Pissed about loosing this one, but I wasn't ready for it anyway.

I also use a Hunter alignment rack/ lift like this one

It has two air op trolley lifts and picks up a F350 PStroke to remove wheels no problem. However there's nothing like a frame contact 2 post deal.

Mark, as evidenced by my earlier post, I strongly considered a 4 post lift aswell. However, not being firm in my choice I looked long and hard and eventually purchased a USA made Rotary lift at a State auction and am very pleased with my good luck and decision.

MY advise is to go two post, and strongly consider a US made lift. Mohawk is in a league of it's own and if I had unlimited funds, I'd have one. Funds are limited however.... the good news is there are several quality US made lifts for considerably less than a Mohawk that are professional grade and in many shops.
