Buying new tires tomorrow help !!!

Buying a set of 6 for my dually ,the 315s are not working out. Please your opinion, Coopers (made in America) or

Nitto's dura or terras. My order goes in tomorrow at 2 pm, thx

I have had great service from the Michelin M/S in stock size, more than double the mileage from the Good Years. They may be more expensive but the service and piece of mind is worth it to me.

Get yourself 6 LT265/70R17 Mastercraft Courser C/T's or some Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO 2's. The Mastercrafts are kissin' cousins to the Cooper family of tires.

Michelin - LTX™ M/S will cost $250 per tire a Cooper is $142 thats a big difference.

We have been using Firestone Transforce A/T's and have over 50,000 on several sets and still wearing strong. These are installed on heavy loaded service trucks that are

"off road" every day on new construction sites.

I put a set of Michelin M/S on my 2001 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. These I put on at 44,000 miles which replaced the Goodyears that came from the factory. I sold my truck to my younger son in 08, when I bought my Dodge. My son still has the truck with 105K, on the OD and the Michelin tires still on the truck. The tires look like they could go another 10K to 20K before they need to be replaced. He is in the construction business and will drive anywhere from 15 to 20K a year.

Michelin are just one hell of a long wearing tire. Another point to consider is how much wheel weights are required, the Michelin usually take only an 1 oz or 1. 5 oz to balance. Which means they will not go out of balance so easily.

I have been very happy with the Cooper Discoverer S/T-C on my dually, they have worn well and seem to do great out the fields, on gravel roads or in mucky rutted roads dragging a trailer.

I can speak for the Michelin LTX M/S tires also. They are more expensive, but they are quiet, and wear extremely well. On my 01, I ran them and replaced them at 53,000 miles, with 7/32nds left. Great tire, very easy to balance, and nice looking too.

I feel guilty about not buying American,real guilty, but I ordered the Nitto terras after much research. My no. 2 choice Cooper A/T not easy to find here and 3rd Firestones.

i know when it comes to tires, we all have our opinions, but it comes down to what purpose you need them to serve, the michelins are a good highway tire, but imo suck in snow and mud, the more agressive tires will not wear as well due to the more agressive pattern and rolling resistance. a good all around all terrain i have come to like so far is the hankook dynapro at's and they are not that expensive either, haven't killed this set yet but so far so good. but that is just my . 02

i have bf goodrich all terrain tires have 55k miles on them and i can probable get 10k more
out of them and when is time to get new ones i am getting exactly the same kind of tire,
i have a brand new set of michellins LTX M/S sitting in the garage because in mud, snow
sand, off road they totally suck.

Mickey already picked out his tires, but I'll put in a second for the Firestone Transforce AT's. Got 55k miles out of them, paid less than $1000 for six with road hazard warrantees (which I never needed). Balanced with very little weight, quiet on road for such an agressive tread, and worked like a charm in the deep snow when I lived in Denver. Rarely had to use 4WD even when empty.



They were replaced with Bridgestone Duravis R500HD which is more All Season that All Terrain, but is a commercial grade tire.



Mickey - did you go back to stock size 235/80R17's or another size? 315's are awful big for 6" rims.

Yes I went back to stock size for several reasons , I could feel how heavy those 315 were and in my mind I could see my brakes going by the wayside real fast. 2) The geometry angles changed with a bigger tire 3) Dodge guys spent millions finding the correct tire for this vehicle who am I to challenge MIT grads? 4) 2x in one week I had the death wobble which I never had with the stock size. 5) There really is no advantage to this size tire any gain in mileage due to less rpm per mile would be off set by the wider and more aggressive rolling resistance. In the end I bought 6 Nitto Duras it was 1130 out the door balanced and installed. They ride quiet and 99. 9% of my time in on road, I ride the beach I will just air down, If I go in deep snow I will have to chain up.
I was not happy with wear of all terrain tires. Anyone buying new tires should be aware of the date of manufacture. Old tires are deadly, the ones I just bought were made in the middle of Dec 09 only a month old and they came from Japan. (At least it wasn't China) Toyo got the best rating from customers 6 out of 8 years.

So bottom line would I like a big lifted truck with nastly looking Micky Thomsons on it ,ready to eat a ricer for dinner, you bet... but I have 6 grandkids so what the mind wants the body cant do. Thanks for listening guys . good luck and make good choices.
