I have decided to buy a newer truck (My 96 has 236,000 trouble free miles on it) What year(s) seems to have the least problems. I need a 4x4 and prefer the auto trans. It is my understanding there are some pump issues, do some models rust quicker any help on any thing that may be an issue is appreciated.

Personally If I had a choice I would stick with the 12 valver you already have.

ditto on that, if I were to do it again I would buy a 12valve. Cheaper. And I probably would have bought a stick also.

Make that a ditto. I didn't meet a knowledgable neighbor until after purchasing a 98. 5 auto. He new everything about the superior reliability and economy of the '98 12-valves but didn't want the egr required of Ca. vehicles. Little did we know! Rehab your 12-valve.

After looking at a few of these posts like this it seems that all the 24valver guys wants 12valves and the 12 valvers want to go to 24 valves :-laf Lots of jealousy here or what :D

Find a good 2001. 5 (best of breed). Disc brakes on the rear, in 2002 most did not have the frond CAD, and a lot seem to have VP44 failures. SNOKING

12 or 24

sometimes i wish i would have just bought a used 12vlv due to its all mechanical none of that corn-puter crap, i purchased a new 24 vlv actually one of fifty last ones to come off the assembly line, no vp44 issues, your at a tough decision both are great!!! jeremy
