Has anyone had the problem with the knob for there Jake Brake

buzzing, while traveling at highway speeds. I had my Jake Brake installed by the dealer last week and as soon as I went on the freeway and got up to about 60 mph, the knob that controls the Jake started to buzz from the vibration of the stick, if I put my finger on it of course it stops but as soon as I take my finger off it starts to buzz again. The tec. that did my install is very good and I know it is not his fault, it seems to be something with the way the switch is built. If anyone out there has had this problem and found a way to fix it I would really appreciate your advice.

P. S. You cant believe what a great truck this is, I have not yet found anything I don't like about it.

Well except for that annoying buzz.

Mine did it from the beginning. The knob screws on the shaft--giving it a good solid twist gets it tight enough not to buzz.

I wrapped an elastic band around the shaft a few times and then the knob can't quite fully go down and rattle or buzz. Have to change the elastic about once every two years

If it's the red switch that looks like a 2 speed rear end type switch, it's the same I have. Also known as the BD switch. I did the rubber band thing till I had rotted off several. Finally pulled the switch up, got my grease gun and gooshed a little dab on the shaft. Worked it up and down a few times and the rattle has been gone for nearly a year. Works great, didn't cost a thing. :D

YEP!

and it's getting worse. On a recent trip it was about to drive the wife and I crazy, I had seen the rubber band thing here and tried it . It worked, but the rubber band broke inside a month. I used to be able to make it stop by twisting the knob, but that no longer works and the rattle is getting worse. The other day, while holding it all the way home and trying to figure something out, I thought "small o-ring". Haven't tried it yet, but you can bet I will soon. If I come up with anything I'll let everyone know.

There is a small set screw on the left side of the knob, just tighten it up and that will stop the buzz, it stopped mine anyway.

Mine didn't buzz much except when I was towing a load up a long grade. I just wrapped a piece of white athletic tape around the base and curled it under to get it to stop. To clean it up I put a layer of black electrical tape around it. I tried tightening things and it never did get rid of the buzz. The tape was the first thing I tried so I never tried to find anything else.

Thank you everyone. I tried the set screw, no good, I tried the twist, no good, I tried the o-ring, put it over the shifter knob, put a half twist in it and put that half over the Jake knob, problem solved now.

Thank you again, all the folks on this site have been so much help, you all have saved me allot of time, money and pain.

P. S. all my gauges are being installed on Thursday, can't wait.
