My first post.
In possession of "Oilguard" by-pass oil filter.

Any thoughts/facts/fiction on the product?

Hook-up looks like high pressure would be out of the top of the oil filter housing above main oil filter. (?) Return looks like it could be connected to the oil drain pipe on the turbo. (?)

Will this effect the oil pressure to the turbo? Will this effect the oil over all oil pressure? If so why?

You're facts,remarks,comments gratefully appreciated.

Headlight, Welcome to the board. I just returned from the Gatornationals and found your post from last thursday still unanswered. You ask some very good questions. This is a modification which has the capacity to destroy your engine if it's poorly engineered or incorrectly installed. I am personally unfamiliar with Oilgaurd products, so I can't comment on their reputation or performance. I would recommend that you purchase a complete "system" which has been engineered & designed for use on our engines. There are a lot of ways for an inexperienced but well intentioned owner to botch up a homemade by-pass filtration system. I have however read posts and seen some photos on the boards here of some very innovative filter installations. If however, you are uncertain of how to plumb, meter or route the system, the "over the counter" package is the way to go. Please enjoy this site, and thanks for wanting to improve your truck... ... ..... you are not alone.

Thanks for you're reply. Still have not decided on how or if I will install the by-pass filter. My main worry is/if I tap into the plug on top of the main oil filter housing, will this effect the oil flow to the turbo?

I have an Oilguard and it's a great filter! It does what they say - actually takes out soot. My sample pre Oilguard had soot and after Oilguard 0% soot. The filters are $13. I think Amsoil is double that. Why pay double?? There's a plug next to the turbo line that I used for the supply. I took the oil fill tube off and fitted it with a bulkhead fitting to return the oil to the engine without messing with the cap. The filter has a . 050" orifice and you won't wreck your engine. Also check out wefilterit.com. I might get one of theirs so I can change the filter for 20 cents. George sells the Frantz and Amsoil and said the toilet paper outdoes the Amsoil filter. My dad used them on his trucks in the 60's and I know they work very well. Craig

Thats what I wanted to know.
If looking for a by-pass filter check
oilguard.com. They are moving and all products are 50% off and free shipping.
This is not a product endorsement. Information only.

I bought one of their filters first so I could see what it looked like. Then I Mickey Moused a housing from a 235 Chevy 6 to take the filter. Thanks for the word! I might buy the right housing now. They wanted $270 for the kit and I didn't want to spend that much til I knew it worked. Craig

I checked their site to make sure they didn't jack up the regular price for the sale - they didn't. The kit is supposed to come with 2 filters. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they still do that with the 1/2 price sale.

I agree with Topfuel, the only one I have seen was dumping back in the fill cap on the valve cover. kinda like a drive shower, for you boat owners... #ad

I was wondering the same thing. If I mess with the plug on the top of the oil filter is seems like it would have to affect oil pressure. I have to check out the plug near the turbo.

Is the plug near the turbo line a from the supply line or return line or neither. I'll go look for it right now. I planned on washing the truck anyway.

Hi Cooker
The plug on top of the oil filter housing next to the line going to the turbo is a supply line (pressurized). If this port is used, I am not sure if it will reduce oil pressure to the turbo line.
Anyone know?
Hope it did not rain on you're clean truck!

I would suspect that the pressure loss to the turbo would be very minimal. So does this Oilguard filter work with the Amsoil set up?

After looking at the Oilguard filter it won't work with the Amsoil setup. The Amsoil is a spin on canister and the Oilguard is not.

I am very impressed with the Oilguard and the prices of the filter are much better than Amsoil.

I have heard that Mag-Hytec is working on a ByPass filter kit. Still unsure of the release date. I send them an email to possibly get some more info.

I'm thinking about ordering up one of these Oilguards though.

Anybody have some more input on these filters?

(Didn't rain on the truck, but they are talking snow on Friday. I swear only in Michigan can it be 60 and a day or two later it will be 20 and snowing. Michigan sucks!)

The oilguard EPS20 only has a . 050" orifice. I drilled mine to 1/16" and can't tell any reduction in pressure at any time - even hot. This filter would work on any engine - just tap into oil pressure somewhere and return the oil to the sump, that's how bypass filters work. Oilguards claim to submicron efficiency must be true, it took out all the soot in my oil and the sale price is great! I ordered 20 spare filters!

How are you guys getting ahold of this place?
I tried their phone number 1-800-671-0777 last night, but I was unable to get through. I don't really want to fax my information to a unknown number. I am going to put the Oilguard on the Dodge to clean the soot and swap the homemade model onto my car.

Brian

I've been getting a constant busy signal with that #. I had that # in my file for them - it's their regular #(or was). They must not be answering during the move. I took a chance with the fax.

I was also unable to contact Oilguard by telephone. The product was recommended to me by a engineer (SAE). I took a chance and faxed the order. No problems. Made a second order for a friend, no problems. The orders were received in approx. a week. I requested confirmation via e-mail. Both orders were acknowledged.

I have some concerns about faxing the order as well. Thanks for clearing that up.

Anybody know how long the comapny has been around? I hate to buy a unit and not be able to get filters in a year or two.

Hey Cooker!
I had the same concerns. Solved the problem I ordered 20 replacement filters. Either the truck is going to die or I am going to die. No worries!.
Filter should last 15000 miles, 20 Filters =
300,000 miles. How long can you last! Probably not as long as the cummins.
