I just ordered the Amsoil BMK-11 + filter + fancy billet oil return cap. The whole thing's about $200. There are lots of these in use and they have a good reputation. That's how I made my decision.

you just have to go with the one that fits your budget, is in your acceptable level of skill for install and your acceptable level of inconvienance for maintanance.

I have the Amsoil single by pass for the past 5 years with no problems and

25k mile oil changes. It uses a spin on filter so it is easy to maintain.

Hope this helps

So the BMK-11 will work ok with a 2nd gen. ? I thought they were recommending the 15ae or 15ea or what ever the heck it was. The 11 still retains your factory full flow filter, correct? and the 15 replaces that with a remote mount full flow, right? I think I'd prefer to go with the 11 and that fancy billet valve cover oil return if it'll work on a 2nd gen. (mines a 24v). I thought the caps were only for the common rails. How far are you supposed to be able to go between oil changes with either set up?

I run an Oil Guard system, unit comes with the billet oil return cap, all the hardware, press on lines with brass fittings. works really well, about 8K miles on the system, no problems. got the unit from MTM industrial.

I've been using the Amsoil system on my 2nd Gen for 7 years now, have the unit with 2 filters. I mounted it under the front bumper , so it's simple to change filters. Been using an oil analyst for years, and based oil changes on the results, which has been around 25,000 miles usually. ( filter changes in between oil changes) With well over 300,000 miles on it now, the entire system works well for me.

good luck

The BMK-11 is the by-pass I would recommend. Then you need a filter to go with that. The EaBP-100 is a 8" tall filter and it is good for up to 15 quarts. -Jason

I installed the Franz in just a couple of hours. One filter and 100 miles later my 4000 mile oil was honey colored again instead of black.

My only problem is that I need to figure out how to change the filter element without dribbling oil all over. Took as much time to wipe up as it did to change filter. (about 15 minutes total)

I use a RACOR 802 LFS because RACOR is an industrial standard in filter technology. I still change my oil every 5k and the bypass filter 10k.

I think the Frantz is the only one that will filter sub micron and actually get the soot out of the oil. As I understand it as long as you can get 99. 99999% of everything above about 3 microns out you should be good. I think that anything below 3 microns will pass right through a bearing without damage.

I do not use it to extend oil changes rather to keep the oil as particle free as is possible, and if I go a little bit beyond 5k on oil changes (time constraints etc) I know the oil is fine. As stated above some members extend the oil changes quite a bit.

One of the TDR members said a long time ago "changing the oil is like flushing the toilet". That was when I was doing synthetic and extending changes. I went back to regular Delo 400 and 5k changes. The synthetic was too much of a hassle and cost to constantly do OA and bet the engine on OA, so I went back to "normal changes" with super clean oil (bypass filter).
