After reading several threads about K&N filters, I got concerned about the one I've had for over 70K, replaced them with a BHAF and outerwears prefilter. WOW, was I surprised when I pulled the intake hose off my turbo. I've seen picks posted, but what i saw blew me away. The dirt an grime was every bit as bad or worse than what I've seen. If I had a digital cam, I'd post the pics. Despite following directions to the letter, there was some evidence that I had overoiled on my last cleaning. What I have been letting go into my engine will keep me up at night for awhile. I did enjoy the bang from the K&N, but its not worth the chance, I'll stick with the idoit proof BHAF and sleep at night.

Join the club, I ran away from the K&N when my silicone numbers were real high (51 PPM). As soon as I put the BHAF on my numbers have been coming down and are almost normal now.

I have never seen what you guy's are saying but I do put synthetic grease in the housing where the filter lays in. I would think living in AZ. and driving my truck daily to a Sand and gravel operation thru the dirt and sand to the plant would reveal a problem. All of my oil analysis numbers come back excellent. The intake hose and turbo are clean during routine inspections. Maybe the filters made in 98/99 are a different quality.
