took my truck to a shop to have gauges installed and was given a price of 800. 00 just for install. i think this is way to much but i dont really know the going price. does anybody know of a good shop close to st augustine florida. i am about halfway between jacksonville and daytona.

wow thats high you can buy the hole works for around 300 to 400 depends on the guages I would be looking elsewere to I normaly charge 100 to 150 to install I am sure you can find some one close for that

I enjoy the beach, but love tinkering around in the shop. I'd would not feel the same way if I was trying to make a living working on other folks trucks, but working on mine is a pleasure. A pleasure making upgrades, a bit of a chore fixing regular stuff that breaks!!

TRussell, you're smart to get gauges but $800 is way too much. Maybe you can find some TDR members close that will help you out. Watch for some get togethers in your area.

I installed mine and also change the oil and other maintenance chores. If you choose to pay for labor that is probably best for you and certainly nothing to apologise for. I'm sure many of us have spent more doing it ourself due to screwups than we would have if we had paid a professional. As Dirty Harry said, "you gotta know your limitations".

I agree also that 800. 00 is way to high. i would look around and even make estimates over the phone. I love working on my own trucks also, but I can also understand that not everyone shares my joy. Good luck with the gauge installation.

I'm on both sides of the fence. I pay to get technical/advanced things done to my truck. For instance, dialing in the TST or getting my valves adjusted. I learned you can have the best parts on the truck, but if its not tuned right or have the right combos, it's worthless and can be costly in repairs.



At the same time, I like working on my own truck/toys. If something goes bonkers on a road trip I have an idea of what to look for and fix it. Especially if its the weekend and the diesel shop is closed. That's the nice thing about the forum web sites. I've saved a lot of money in labor, looking up an issue and finding a fix.



On the gauges issue, I've been screwed on labor when installing mine. I connected the electrical myself, but didn't know how to and felt better having a "what I was told was an experienced shop" install/tap my pyro and boost sensors. They ended up getting shavings in the turbo and charging me $500 to install 2 sensors.

for 750 bucks ill fly out there and install em for ya! ill even buy the ticket. glad to see you didnt let that shop screw you over. was it a real diesel shop? after talking to some of the people that work in the bolt on purdy part truck shops, i avoid them. alot of places(acessories, tire, muffler) shops are doing these but that doesnt mean they do them right. where ever you go, make sure you ask them how there gonna keep the shavings out of you turbo and what not. if they do have an answer or try to tell you theyll fly out when you start it, run! i drove 280 miles to have my clutch put in by a guy that i know would do it right. if your gonna pay a pro, dont limit yourself to your local area. take a little drive if there a reputable shop within reasonable distance.

I took my time and I did them all in about 4 or 5 hours. And that was my first time. Knowing what I know now, I'd do it in less than 4.



If you were local I'd do it for you for $200. I miss having a truck to work on...

You can laugh all you want, but the older I get, the more mundane tasks I pay to have done, LOL. I even got lazy over the winter and paid to have my oil changed Oo.



$800 is a bit steep, took me about 2 hours to install EGT and boost. I drilled and tapped 2 holes, ran the lines, cut the grab handle of in the bandsaw, buttoned it up and called it a day ... ... ... ..... that was 3-4 years ago when I was younger. :-laf

Add another 50 to that 800 and get you an edge w/ attitude monitor and install it yourself. the hardest part would be drilling and taping for your egt probe. easy install, gauges, 5 level chip, turbo timer, 1/4 mile time, 0-60 time, alarms, etc... . you get the picutre.

haha, that was my thought - That much gets you a TST with boost and EGT - Then you get a SRT-10 pillar for the fuel pressure gauge.....

I live In Jacksonville, and my office is just north of St Augustine airport, south of Palencia. I will be swapping out a turbo next weekend at the office and doing some electrical work (box and lockup controller) I would be happy to give you a hand. I don't know of any diesel folks around here that I would feel comfortable with. There are a couple in Orlando that seem like nice folks though.
