BHAF questions

Looking for Clutch Suggestions

Finally got off my lazy butt and installed my Amsoil BMK15 dual bypass filter this week. After ordering a set of 90 degree fittings, it went together great. There is a pretty noticable droaning noise coming from the set-up. Almost sounds like there is air in the system. Similar to air in houshold plumbing. Suggestions as to what may be causing it and / or how to fix it?

Henry,

Unfortunately, this is one of the problems with the BMK-15 on the Dodge/Cummins application. It seems the oil flows so rapidly through the system that the check valve in the mount is causing the fluttering noise you are hearing. It will not hurt anything, but it is an anoyence. This is one of the reasons that I recommend installing the "single" remote (BMK-11). This unit only flows a small portion of the oil flow through the lines and does not make any noises at all. Both the BMK-15 and the BMK-11 accomplish the same thing... ... ... ... ... Cleaner oil and less wear on the engine!

Really? I can't say I *ever* heard any noise from mine! But then I've got a 12V, which could generate a bit more noise... .

OK, I'll live with it for now

I've driven the beast a bit since the install and only notice it at "in town speeds". I don't notice a thing on the freeway. I welded my filter bracket to the passenger side frame behind the bumper. I wonder if putting a rubber gasket between the bracket and base would do anything?

I have a 24 valve and my BMK 15 doesn't make any noise. But I did notice that the oil pressure is less than with the factory filter setup. I am at about 45-50 psi when I am running at 2500 rpms. I used to be at 60 psi with the factory filter.

Hell no

There’s no way I'm liven with this noise:mad: Just installed my BMK-15 and oh man this thing is loud:{ Sounds to me like the oil pump resonating the noise right up the oil line. I was really hoping someone would have found a fix to this problem by now. I’ve got 500 smackers invested into this thing and I'd really like to make it work.

Bypass noise

I'm not exactly sure why, but mine was pretty noisy when I first installed the kit and now the noise has disapated considerably. Give it a whirl for a while and see what you think. Note, my truck is a sport model and I mounted the filter unit inside my front fender on the passenger side corner.

noise

Mine was really noisey when i first installed it. I think the By pass filter is really slow in filling up due to the tight media. Mine still makes noise after 1000 miles but it is much less and really only when it is cold. Goes away after a few miles. The noise I hear kind sounds like a PS pump thats low on fluid.

My PSI is also down but I'm told that that is normal and to be expected.

my 2 cents

I talked to John (the guy that sold me the mounting kit) and he said that I'm like 1 in 50 with a loud oil pump.  Sure hope this thing settles down. Not sure if I want to go as far as to replacing the pump  although from what I understand it's not that big of deal. If I was 100% sure it was the pump then I just might go for it:(

Kurt, that's very interesting news. One would think the thicker oil would make it worse:confused: I planed on switching from 5/30 to the 15/40 this summer but may move up the change based on this news. I also have a 01 HO and if it worked for you it might work for me also. Thanks for the information.

Hmmm...

This noise issue with the BMK-15 is weird.

I have had my Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass system installed for at least two years now and have never heard it make ANY noise. At the time of installation I switched FROM 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine TO Series 3000 5W-30. After the second drain interval with that oil, I decided to go back TO the 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine (which I'm still using).

BTW, I'm using the trick "CPFF" billet aluminum filter adapter, I have my two filters mounted in a 12 degree off the horizontal plane configuration (above the sway bar but below the oil pan... talk about threadin' the needle! :D ), with Aeroquip -08 AN Teflon/braided stainless steel supply and return hoses and Aeroquip steel fittings. Modified Russell, billet aluminum line clamps are employed to keep the two hoses from touching ANYTHING... including each other!

John, maybe onto something with this... "billet aluminum line clamps are employed to keep the two hoses from touching ANYTHING... including each other!"

My dual by-pass head is rubber mounted, the lines however touch everything along the way from the head, to the filter adapter (the hoses ride the top of the radiator, and wrap around the fender before they make it to the adapter). I had the noise for quite a while, then it seemed to vanish, until today.

I happen to be working in the location of the filter hoses hoses, (SS braided) and may have moved them "just right" on accident, on the drive home I noticed that noise was back. So tomorrow I will do as John did above, and I'm sure it will solve the problem, for me anyway.

Lets add another noisy one to the list.

Just got done with a Amsoil dual bypass mount for the 2003 CTD.

It has the loud "empty Ranger pickup steering pump noise". Like, you can feel it through the wheel!

Checked the filters, they are not hitting anything... Hoses were set up right.

THe owner will not deal with this and the truck has to be returned Friday night.

We are going to look at it in the AM, but what did you guys do to take care of the issue?

It sure would help to know so we can take care of it in the morning. Did you just live with the noise? Did it go away?

This has been going on for 7 to 8 months for some of you, so let me know please.

Thanks in advance...

Had the same experience with mine. Pretty noisy right after install, but after it had a few miles on it the noist seemed to go away. :D
