Amsoil remote filter noise
Boy am I glad you guys are here talking about this noise. I just registered as a member because I began having the same noise probs after I installed my dual remote bypass system on my '01 3500 5. 9L HO. A buddy of mine who is a member researched this page for me and now I'm here.
My noise is just as any of you described it and I noticed that it was engine speed sensitive. As I have mounted the remote in the engine bay on the passenger side, my first and worst thought was that the turbo was being starved of oil and was going to blow up. That wasn't the case. I emailed Amsoil Tech Support and what follows is a copy of their reply:
The Cummins engines have an extremely robust oil pump. Since it is inside the motor, we don’t notice the vibrations it makes. Now we mount something that allows these vibrations to travel outside the engine block. Depending on what the filter base is mounted to, these vibrations can cause a drone as if it were mounted to a drum head. You have definitely verified the oil is flowing the correct direction, so we assume it is the harmonic drone syndrome. Usually all this requires is insulating the unit with a heavy piece of rubber inner tubing.
Thank you,

If anyone has managed to fix the problem (not just 'it went away on its own') please let me know. It is infuriating and unacceptable. I will try Amsoil's suggestion soon.
Thanks
Ken
