I didnt get any place w/that site. Kept getting runtime errors.

I just tried it, and it worked fine for me. If you still can't get it to work, just go to my "readers Rigs" and look for the by-pass systems.

I guess mine is a 2nd generation (98 12 v) a bracket came with it that bolted on to the altinator bracket. Yours I know could be a little different but I would think the bracket has been adjusted to compensate for any difference if any.

Member, LightmanE300 has an Amsoil Dual Bypass Filteration System. He bought a custom-made mounting system from member John Strenkowski, and is very happy with it, as I understand.

If you haven't chosen a Bypass System, yet, you may want to go into the "bob is the oil guy.com" website & look under Bypass Filters. There is a lot of useful information you may be interested in.

I use to run the Amsoil bypass system on my truck and went to a Spinner II. http://www.oil-tech.com.../spinerii.htm You might consider one of these as they can be cleaned and your don't have to keep buying filters. They work great for active soot removal and will catch everthing from 10 um down to . 1 um. Food for thought ;)

SAY, that filter and it's claims sure look interesting - do you have any supporting oil analysis results from yours you could post for us with competing types to compare with?

Mack uses a similar spinner type filter. May be from the same company, not sure. Never cut one of the filters open to look at how wel it does, or pulled an oil sample.

I have two samples out to Blackstone labs at this time. A base sample and one with 8,000 miles of run time. US Postal service screwed up and sent them via ground shipping and I am hoping to have the results this week. Once I have those results, I will pull another sample and send it in to see what it looks like. The guys at Blackstone told me that I should be very happy with the Spinner II as it will remove the soot with no problems. They told me that they have customers that are on extended drain intervals of 60,000 + turns (not Blackstones idea) that have no problems. I plan on just doing my filter changes every 7,500 like I always do and just charge the filter with makeup oil. I do know that the unit will remove soot and it has the appearance of dry roofing tar when pulled out of the unit. It builds up on the outside bottom. I took about 1/2 teaspoon after 20 hours of run time on oil that had 8,000 miles. My next sample should show this oil to be getting cleaner. Just got to get the results from the first two. I will post a graph showing what is going on with the results. ;)

Bypass Filter location

I still have my 98. 5 and run an Amsoil system on it and have had good results with it. I now have the 2004. 5 HO and am nearing the 20k mark but the engine compartment seems to have less space where I mounted the one on my 98. 5 and thought I'd tap into the brain trust for some ideas. Thanks for the input on similar and different systems. I am willing to rescearch and consider any alternative.

By all means, get back to us in this thread - or perhaps start another, maybe with a detailed bit on your installation, photos and all - I'm always looking for something better - and the actual oil analysis comparison will be the bottom line - I'm looking forward to your results!

I have some install pictures at home on my lap-top. I will work at getting them posted tonight when I get home, barring any unforseen problems. ;)

I've been thinking about the Oilguard System. The drain goes back to the top of the valve cover. They give you a new oil fill cap, plumbed with a fitting to accept the return line from the bypass filter.

I was looking at the return line beneath the turbo. It's looks like a 1/2" pipe with a rubber hose near the bottom. I was wondering if you could tap into that line? The thing I'm concerned about is would that 1/2" pipe be large enough to flow the return oil from both the turbo & the Oilguard. I think the Oilguard flows about 1 quart/minute. I can't imagine the turbo oil feed is that great. My guess is that it would work.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

PS: DavidC. I have not purchased a bypass system, yet. Nice to hear from you, again.

Hey guys, I did get my mount setup from TDR member CPFF/John Strenkowski. Great guy and a great billet mount, that mounts to pre-drilled holes in the block to eliminate any humming noise associated with mounting on the frame or elsewhere. Oil analysis results are great.

Buffalo - you can just use the plugged oil feed on top of the oil filter housing as a feed and return via the cap I believe. You could do this with a single amsoil bypass unit as well as an oilguard. I had an oilguard on my VW TDI, and I will say that while they work fine, they are a messy pain to change elements.

There are some pics of the mount and setup with ss braided hoses in my gallery. If anyone is interested pm me, I may be selling the setup due to lack of space, since I am leaning toward twins.

arar - you don't indicate what brand bypass you are considering - but if you are open as to brand, here's a thread on the Frantz bypass filter:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98863&page=4&pp=40

And on about the 4th page, are pictures of how that particular filter mounts to the battery hold-down bolt - has worked for me for 3 years and 40,000 miles...

And Wayne, that pointer you supplied doesn't seem to work for me either...
I just tried it again, and it worked fine for me. If you still can't get it to work, just go to my "readers Rigs" and look for the by-pass systems.
