I was researching the FS2500 bypass oil filter system and happened upon this product on a Powerstroke site:

"The Fleetguard LF9027 is a combo full flow/bypass filter in one screw-on unit. 90% of the oil flow goes through the full-flow part and 10% goes through the bypass part. It's an easy way to do bypass filtration. "

Has anyone heard of a similar Fleetguard part for the Cummins?

Fleetguard is Commins , I have seen these also , asked the guys at the Cummins parts counter if there was one I could put on the P/U , they said its only for the larger trucks/engines , I'm not sure they know , I would start using them if I found that they would work on the 5. 9 .

The Cumminsfiltration ( aka Fleetguard ) part number you are looking for IS LF9028 . It is made especially for Komatsu applications and is Not ( according to FLG ) recommended for our engines due to volume and flow restrictions. It comes in a case of 12 and IS expensive. I don't think its worth it but if you really want one then you might try your local Komatsu dealer. Shadrach

Can you elaborate? Is it that the filter restricts the flow causing high back pressure causing the filter bypass valve to open? Or is our oil pump output (flow rate) is not enough to make the venturi part of the filter to work? Whats different in the Komatsu application that allows it to work? A stronger spring in the filter bypass valve allowing more pressure at the filter?

brods , I to like to know the whys & why nots , so I can figure a way for things to work or not , or stated an other way , I like to understand things , not believe one way or the other .
Making decisions require understanding , accepting information with out understanding is what gets us in trouble .

First I stand corrected LF9028 is for a Kubota applacation not Komatsu. ( I knew it started with K. :) ) I talked to FLG today and they told me that since it is not listed for our engines they won't/can't recommend it, because of warranty reasons. They did tell me that the LF9028 will only hold 20 grams of dirt while the correct filter will hold 38 grams of dirt. Since the LF9028 is a combo filter ( part full flow and part bypass ) the full flow part is smaller. I also talked to Cummins about using a bypass filter on 5. 9. While they didn't think it was necessary to have a bypass on a 5. 9 they said you had to be careful not to reroute too much oil away from the main system. If you use a small ( #4 ie:1/4" ) line it shouldn't cause a problem. Shadrach

Excuse me a minute while I get my head screwed on properly. :) I was also looking into a remote mount bypass filter system when I talked to FLG, so disregard that line about the line. Shadrach
