This past Thursday, my wife calls me at work to tell me she just filled her 03 with 18 gallons of gasoline. :{

She told another Ram owner noticed what she had done and brought it to her attention. I told her to be sure to not start it, but another person waiting in line to use the pump behind told her it wouldn't hurt it to run it on gas. So, she had started and moved it. I had the truck towed to Diesel Injection Service where they purged the contaminated fuel out of the lines, dropped the tank and cleaned it completely, pumped 9 gallons of clean diesel with some Racor fuel treatment. All for just $213. :D

The bystander and Diesel Injection Service saved the day for our truck. :)

A few years ago I had a co-worker who filled up her Diesel Rabbit with gas at the bottom of the I5 Grapevine... . didn't make it to the top! I carry 10' of 5/8" tubing just in case I make the mistake and have to drain the tank. I gave my first 10' roll of tubing to another Dodge diesel owner who's son had just filled their tank with gas.

My dad was worried about my brother one day after he was out in a snow storm. He went out to look for him and took my brother's gas Scout. (My brother was driving his OTHER Scout, the diesel. Yes, he was ok!)

So, my dad starts up the gas Scout, but it's out of gas, so he fills it up... With a gas can, but it's diesel, and not marked as diesel. The Scout ran for a mile I think. He had it towed and eventually sold it.

I think diesels run better on gas and are easier to clean than the other way around!

I was just informed some people have received a gas/diesel mixture from the station behind where I work. Interesting part is, they don't sell diesel. Always pays to give it a sniff.

I've put gas in my truck before. I ran out of diesel, and the nearest gas station didn't sell diesel, so I bought 2. 5 gallons of 93 Octane, and 6 quarts of non-detergent motor oil... 10-30 I think. Sure ran funny, but got me 50 miles or so down the road until I could fill 'er up with Diesel. Low power, smoked gray/white but EGT's were low, and so was the boost:-laf

I was once running on fumes... pulled into the fuel station and pumped 6gal. of lo-test into my diesel befor realizing it. Went ahead and put 28gal. of diesel in with it and about 1/2 a bottle of DFA.

No external signs of burning 6gal. of gas in that mixture whatsoever... i. e. no difference in idle, cruise, WOT, smoke, egts, noise, blah blah blah

Obviously we all know the poor lubricating properties of gasoline compared to diesel - hence the 3x overdose of DFA. Oh well... now I can say I've 'been there, done that!'

About 1969, My father with his shiny 1963 Porsche 356, took a trip from LA to San Francisco via California coast highway 1. He ran one tank all the way to Carmel where he pulled into a Signal gas station. My Dad ALWAYS pumped his own gas. The station attendant patiently waited inside as my Dad filled the 356. When Dad was done, he went to pay, told the attendant what pump he was on and the attendant told him, "You just filled your car with Diesel" Needless to say my Dad wasn't too happy. He drained it best he could, filled it with Premium and drove away. Dad said it smoked for a while!

I had a Mobil station locally that I used to fuel my Diesel VW Dasher wagon at. They put GREEN pump nozel sleeves on their unleaded pumps. I, a couple of times put a gallon or so of Gasoline in it before I realized it was gas. Being a indirect injected diesel, VW said that you could run up to 10% gas in the fuel for winter usage. It didn't seem to hurt it.

Flyin J has a pump they use in case you, or they pump in the wrong stuff. (at least in my area). I have wrapped the "gas" cap in green electrical tape. I think in California green stands for unleaded, but everywhere else it's diesel.

It would have been nice if they made diesel nozzles oval, or something that would not be interchangeable with gas. They made unleaded nozzles smaller, so I don't think you can pump diesel in an unleaded car.

I personally would have just bought a few gas canisters, and a hand pump, then used that gas all year with the mowers. Someone gave me a few years back such gas/diesel mixture, and it ran with a diesel odor in my old gasser tractor (that I barely ever use anymore). I may have needed to enrich the mixture, but old tractors have that mixture adjustment in plain view. You just need to change the oil afterwards.

If you have a gallon of gas left on a full tank of diesel, it won't hurt it.
